EA calls the Safe Cover 0

Nostalgia, Hollowed Be Thy NameThe late 1990s found the once evergreen American Arcade scene slip into it's autumn and eventual falling out of gaming providence. While titles like Dance Dance Revolution and perennial dive bar favorite Golden Tee Golf were-arguably-the last golden eggs laid in North American arcades, Midway Games' cartoonish no-hold-barred take on professional football, NFL Blitz, helped rekindle a bit of the competitive luster that once drew hundreds of gamers out of their homes...

When EA announced it was remaking NFL Blitz, I wasn’t quite sure what to think. Here was my favorite sports game of all time being revitalized by the company that has dominated the sports industry with games that thrive on realism. Needless to say, I came into this game not expecting an exact replica of the game I knew and love, and that’s one of the best things I could have done.Players burst into flames if you're on a hot streak. For the few of you who aren’t familiar with the classic Midway fr...

EA Sports Goes From Jamming to Blitzing... 0

After the successful NBA Jam revival, EA Sports decides to also bring back NFL Blitz in this new downloadable release for Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network. The Blitz franchise has been known for fast-paced arcade style football without most of the NFL rules from pass interference being allowed, a limited but enough playbook on both sides of the ball, being on fire like NBA Jam, and crazy tackle animations the Madden games dreamed of having. Most of what makes NFL Blitz the game...

Does it live up the the nostalgia it induces? Almost certainly not, of course! But still, here are his thoughts after a few hours with it!I played a lot of NFL Blitz in the late 1990s. I can still vividly recall the new multiplex in the local mall having a huge grand opening celebration, my favorite part of which was the new NFL Blitz 99 machin...

    Wait, No Powerbombs? 0

I hold the NFL Blitz series on a lofty pedestal because it is still the only football game franchise to hold my attention for more than a few plays. The old Midway titles made their name with speed, play calling, and more after-the-whistle power bombs than you could shake a stick at, and NFL Blitz 2012 only manages to partially fulfill the first two elements. As for the late hits, they are conspicuously absent, leaving a big hole for those who have been awaiting a perfect Blitz follow-up for yea...

    NFL Blitz 0

NFL Blitz released in January this year, and developed by EA Sports is an ok remake of the original NFL Blitz with addicting online play.NFL Blitz on the Nintendo 64 and in the arcades was something that I played a lot of growing up, and this re-make captures that nostalgia while updating it to the modern era, but the game just doesn’t compare to the original. The meat and potatoes of this release are the ability to play that old school feeling blitz online. The online modes are great ...
