    A Beautiful Game

This is a beautiful game in just about every way and I highly recommend it. There are a few complaints. For people expecting a standard Platinum game, they might find the combat to be too simple, but that's a matter of perspective. This is a sequel to Nier, which was more or less styled after Zelda with its high leeway and lack of emphasis on inputs. Automata's combat fits this template and it does it admirably.

Sidequests (which I recommend doing) often have you trekking through the same environments over and over. The game has multiple playable characters, but not all of them are created equal. At times you may be stuck with a character that, in spite of having dedicated mechanics, feels woefully lacking when compared to the others.

The game's story is fascinating, weird, and extremely well-realized. Its themes are highly developed and worthy of thought. The emotional journey hits all its points extremely well. I will miss these characters, but I am left happily unsatisfied.

Automata's PC port is godawful. I've experienced crashes and graphical errors where the game continues under an unrecoverable white screen. Without a fan-made fix, I was unable to enter full-screen mode without an odd resolution bug despite my very standard 1080p 60hz monitor. The game would max out my GPU's load and the game's framerate would slowly deteriorate over time, becoming choppy after an hour or so of play for no visibly apparent reason-- closing the game and restarting it would put the framerate back to a solid 60fps. Like many Japanese-developed PC games, it chooses to have the mouse cursor onscreen as an annoying distraction. It is asinine that Square Enix has not yet released a patch to fix any of these issues so far out of release.

In spite of this, I recommend the game.

A lot to offer, and a lot of confusion 0

(Note: This is my Steam review of the game. Steam review allows for a limited amount of characters, thus, I didn't have enough space to reflect on certain things like graphics, soundtrack, and performance and more opted to reflect my overall experience of the game. Thankfully, by the time I played it, I didn't have the same performance issues everybody else did and the Soundtrack is phenomenal.)Nier: Automata has something to say. Meta-Game of the Year 0

*I'm reviewing the PC version.Nier: Automata on a fundamental level is a good action game that has solid foundation of heavy and light combat system with some shooting mechanics. The adversary one faces is numerous in types and attacking patterns, scales well to your level and experience, and there are a plenty of customization options to improve your experience and tailor it to many preferences. The plot is about a couple of special combat androids fighting the robots that aliens used to invade ...
