I have a friend who loves these games, I feel bad for him, but from the look of that quick look awhile back I am not too surprised I guess.

Three out of ten? Say it ain't so!

Are there fans of the series on here? What do you guys think about all of this?

@Milkman: Yeah, it really is sad when once great developers turn sour...

Rare, Team Ninja, Infinity Ward, all those re branded EA developers.

Guys, did we really need a third thread about Ninja Gaiden 3's low reviews, to say nothing about the fact that every single one of these threads is about IGN's 3/10?

@iAmJohn: I looking the Ninja Gaiden 3 thread, the names sounded like they were older posts.

Aside from the stupid thread claiming IGN are trolling by giving it a bad review, that thread does not count.

I'm not convinced that the franchise would've kept up quality if Itagaki had stuck around. Then again, with his ego I'm sure he would've done something crazy with it.

My thread isn't stupid. I'm analysing it, since it's the subject of the day. Go make yourself some tea and relax.

It looked bad, but 3/10 is a bit on the harsh side, I think. 5/10 sounds more appropriate.

Well, it's not a Team Ninja game.

Didn't they fire most of the staff, or they left and weren't involved in this game ?

Every piece of information that they shared before release sounded like a terrible design decision. Coupled with completely uneventful gameplay demos and previews, and you could have seen this low score coming from miles away.

Not at all surprising with Itagaki gone. I've played most of the Ninja Gaiden games and have always thought the series was a bit overrated.

7 or 8 out of 10 doesn't strike me as mediocre necessarily, and it's a far cry from the disaster IGN seems to think it is.

@Hailinel: In a world of "7-10"scales, it does imply mediocrity. It makes IGNs score even weirder. Seems like they're trying to turn their image around.

IGN gotta take the chance to SEEM like they actually play the games. Every once in a while a game will be mediocre without paying them off, so it gets the giant shitclub in it's face.

    Makes em' look trustworthy.

From what I've seen it's lost everything that made the other games great. Whoevers running the show down there now doesn't seem to get it - Ninja Gaiden was built on it's combat. That's why it was so good. That's why you put up with the crap camera and bad story. They've made the combat shallow and crappy and that's all Ninja gaiden had going for it really..that and the difficulty.

I feel bad for him because I think he will be just as disappointed by the low quality bar set in this game, he was pretty hardcore into the other games, he beat them all on the highest dificulty, this one is inherently watered down, not to tailor to people like him. So I feel bad for him that a game series he loves may not be good anymore.

So yes, as I said I do feel bad for him, just as I am sure he would feel bad for me if a shitty Halo game came out.

I read the IGN review and it seems like he did not legitimately enjoy the game and the 3/10 review fits with his opinion but in till I play the game I won't now whether I agree with him, though I am inclined to since they gutted team ninja and made this came with a lesser staff plus geared it toward a wider audience taking it away from what makes a Ninja Gaiden game a Ninja Gaiden. Still I won't know till I play it I'm hoping it's good I'm a huge fan.

@Klei: You realize you're on Giantbomb.com right? A site where Jeff Gerstmann does most of the reviews, his reviews are often out of the ordinary based on score, often being lower, of higher than the average by a large margin, and you don't take the time to accuse him of "trolling"? IGN is known for being very middle of the bar, it is about time someone over there have an opinion that differs from the masses.

Don't really care about IGN but they said that you play the entire game with only one weapon... What? Even if I would always come back to Dragon Sword in the other games, it was always fun to kill enemies with the staff or the claws. This is just lazy from Team Ninja and I'm not gonna bother with this game.

7-8 = mediocre, that's how the rating system works, and why complaining about IGN giving a game a 3 doesn't make much sense.

I'd like to see more use of the 3-6 scale. You know, actual critiquing of games?

Oh yeah, totally. Difference is, IGN tries to scale its review with different criteria, GiantBomb does not. I was pointing out the many inconsistencies of IGN's review system compared to the score. Basically, when you put a game on a metric system with different criteria to elaborate on the fact, don't voice it out as an opinion, but as a fact. Here, it's totally different, and I've never complained about it.

The design decisions they made with this game are mind-blowingly bad.

Guys, did we really need a third thread about Ninja Gaiden 3's low reviews, to say nothing about the fact that every single one of these threads is about IGN's 3/10?

NG3 reviews are the new Mass Effect 3 ending Giant Bomb bought out by CBSi threads

Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

In the quick look the game looks worse than the original Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. That is an achievement in itself.

Why do you think the original game is horrible? I'm curious, I never heard such a strong dislike for the game.

It looked pretty poor (as a big Ninja Gaiden fan) in the quicklook. Sadface :(

7-8 = mediocre, that's how the rating system works, and why complaining about IGN giving a game a 3 doesn't make much sense.

I'd like to see more use of the 3-6 scale. You know, actual critiquing of games?

When IGN gives a 3, it's not based on a solid ability to critique.

I don't know how much critiquing any reviewer really does other than having experience reviewing games and knowing the game they are reviewing. Other than that its all opinion and you take or leave what you will about what they say about the game. I feel it matters more when you know the review staff by name and can get an idea of their likes and dislikes.

The reason i say this is because i don't see any kind of rubric stopping anyone from giving a bad score to a game they just did not like. Nothing stopping some reviewer giving another generic jrpg in their eyes a 5.0 to 7.0 for being the same old melodrama when jrpg fans expect that from said game. Does not stop Jeff from giving Catherine 2 stars well others praise it for being a challenging puzzle game. nothing stop Adam Sessler from giving kingdoms of Amalur 2.5 out of 5 well others score it 8 and 9 respectively.

There is nothing wrong with any of these things when you look at it as all opinions versus some serious critique. So i know IGN gets all this heat for being a terrible site which is fine not here to defend them but they are reviewing games just like everyone else.

That quicklook wasn't appealing at all, so I see why.

Don't care what review it gets.

The combat looks terrible so I'd just be stuck with an atrocious story. That guy in charge after Itagaki didn't really understand what made these games cool. All his remakes were weird and did questionable things too, it's sad this is what we get when he's in charge for a whole game.

Ninja Gaiden Black....how amazing you were.

@ImmortalSaiyan: I think he means it's baffling that an old ass last-gen game looks better than this game.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed in the quick look of this game. I really enjoyed the last two. It's too bad that they didn't change much like they said they would from that build. Oh well.
