    This from Gaming HQ:
       Read more...

Today I will talk about how to use a process called VNC to control and view your computer from your DS. This is a bit more complicated than previous things I have shared with the community, but I hope it will interest you anyway.

First, you need a way to load the program on your DS. I cannot guarantee compatiblity of this with the DSi, but you might be able to homebrew that easier since it has an SD card slot built in. But as for the original Nintendo DS, and the DS Lite, you would need a Flash Cart like this

After you do that, you'll need the program for your DS, which is named
PointyRemote. This includes a server for your computer. So after you have all of the above, you might have to tweak some IP address settings and then you'll be good to go! (Refer to the Readme included in the zip for operating instructions.)

You should get a result like this:

That looks pretty damn cool, but is it anything more than a novelty?  It probably isn't Mac compatible  :-)

More geek genius, that continues to impress me.  Anyone with a flash card willing to give this a shot?

NOTE:  This is about the legal uses of flash cards.  Do not talk about using them for piracy or you will likely have your post removed and a follow up PM.

I have done that before, it isn't that great because the refresh rate is slow and you can't hear any sound.

    So more a novelty then?

I couldn't see myself doing it as a regular thing.  My mouse would be easier I think.

Wow, was the original DS really that huge and gross looking?  Weird...  I guess I took the sleeker look of the Lite/DSi for granted.

Anyways, looks kinda cool.  Probably runs pretty terribly in reality, though.

You know, I wasn't exactly a fan of the original DS to begin with, but it has dated extremely poorly.

Is that an extremely oversize DS? The proportions to the hand and monitor look way off.

I'd be willing to do it, hell I can make a video for it if you are interested.

Yes, it is slow and not really worth it.  But with a flash cart there are things that are cool to do like get a internet browser, mp3/video and a TI-83 emulator.

You're right.  It looks like a 5 year old is holding it  ^_^

If you are really keen, but just a report would be more than enough.

Windows has never looked cuter, but this has little real use I reckon, other than making the DS yet another portable porn device to add to the many that litter your house.

    I would if I could.

Careful about mentioning emulators.  The DSi covers the internet browser thing and music (AAC) for me.  The internet browser on the DSi is a horrible experience, but having a music player is great.

@oldschool: Shit, I forgot about Nintendo's horrible WiFi only accepting WEP security. I've got other people using the connection at the moment so changing around my security settings really doesn't sound appealing.

It is indeed horrible.  I have to reboot my Mac to Windows and use a Nintendo Wi-Fi adapter - pain in the arse.

Why am I not surprised.   Saves me the time of ever trying this out one day.

It's a nice concept admittedly. But it seems to be one of those things thats completely undechiperable to anyone but the guy who programmed it :-)
