I'm going to be on the road for quite a bit this summer. I plan to play the hell out of my DS and I wanted to know if any of you could give me recommendations on what games to buy. I enjoy playing RPGs during long trips, but you don not have to limit your recommendations to one genre. I don't want any sports games or FPS because I prefer to play those on a larger screen.

    I already own

Dragon Quest IX is a great RPG. The Castlevania games are fun as well. All three of them.

Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI were all remade for the DS and are all excellent games, though my personal favorite of the trio is Dragon Quest V.

Here are some other picks I'd make:

    • Final Fantasy III
    • Final Fantasy IV
    • The World Ends With You
    • Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
    • Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
    • Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
    • Elite Beat Agents/Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan/Ouendan 2

I really enjoyed IV. I have V, but I didn't get into it. Heard VI was great, but I never bought it.

It also has one of the best stories in the series, from my perspective.

Me personally, I didn't like it that much. I also thought my monsters were at an OK level, but they were the early ones and got beat quick. Then when you tame a new one, they go instantly to lv. 1. I wasn't a fan of that.

There is also Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. It's the weakest in the M&L series, but it was still enjoyable. Also Picross DS and Picross 3D are great puzzle games. I know Picross 3D is only $20 and I picked up Picross DS dirt cheap used at GameStop a few years back.

@BraveToaster: It depends on how bumpy the car ride is. It requires some concentration so it kind of depends.

It's pretty much luck. The Monsters series would do the idea better.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned any of the Professor Laytons yet; so, Professor Laytons.

    Also, Ghost Trick.
