Not enough. Needs more to bring me back 9%

The infamous No Man's Sky just dropped a new update today, and it's a sizable one (file size bigger then the vanilla game)!

It seems like it adds a lot of what people have been asking for and even stuff that Hello Games talked and showed before the launch of the game, like co-op multiplayer and portals.

I haven't touched the game since close to release, but I'm super pummped to get back into it and try to get that excitment that I felt since watching that first trailer (god I was SO excited for it back than).

Can't wait to get home from work and dive in. Been following the arg from the beginning in a discord channel. We went nuts when the photos leaked last night, only to be blown away further when the trailer and patch notes dropped this morning.

I haven't played it before but this update actually has me interested in giving it a shot. It's very cheap on the Playstation Store at the moment so I think I'm finally going to jump in.

    I am reinstalling right now.

I tried it after the last updates but was very disappointed they still did not have proper 21:9 support. I really want to use my whole monitor.

We will see if I can get over the lack of support with this update.

Somewhere between hype and not getting my hopes up. I was firmly in Alex's camp when it first game out but burned out fairly quickly. I'm hoping there's enough here to keep me hooked.

I wonder if the gang will take a look at it on today's UPF.

While it's admirable that the devs have stuck with this as long as they have, unless this patch changes the gameplay, on a fundamental level, the answer is no. Even without the sensation of getting burned in the past by the vast over-promises Hello Games made, No Man's Sky missed it's window. I've got better and more interesting games to be spending my time with.

I wonder, who on GBW would be interested in going back for this, though? That said, I hope someone's giving it another look to see how much have changed, and hopefully improved, over the past year.

If NMS developers had any idea on how to make their product better they would release modding tools and embrace allowing the players to make the game better through mods. The handful of mods that were initially released made the game bearable for a few weeks before the game loop became tedious again.

There were mods that made all plant faunta random sizes so you could come to a planet and it would just be crawling with huge thick trees everywhere and it looked wild in many cases. I can't even imagine what would happen if they just said here are the modding tools go nuts do whatever you want with this entire universe sandbox.

That trailer didn't do much to excite me, the one with vehicles was at least mildly entertaining to watch the trailer for. They didn't do a great job presenting why someone would want to play this again.

I enjoyed my first 30 hours with nms.

Couldn't give less of a shit when that base/vehicle building was added. Ive played since, its just that building stuff is the last thing I'd play nomansky for. These finaly seem like some pretty significant improvements to the core experience of wandering and flying around/'exploring'. Tbh though I just wanted nms to be an infinite space proteus with some light spacecombat and it seems were moving further and further away from that.

Its been a while though since I played as elite dangerous has replaced nms as my 'relax in scifi' game but I'll definitely give it a whirl again this weekend due to the update.

Never got it but just checked the price and $26.59 CAD (-60%) is still too expensive of a barrier for me to want to check this out. Hope it's good though for those of you who already have it!

Played a bunch when it first came out. Did the main Atlas stuff, and the main "loop", and then turned it off. Not played since.
The whole base building update didn't interest me, but this looks like there might be enough meat to go for a new playthrough maybe.

I think most people have probably given up on NMS by now, but it seems entirely possible that the game ends up becoming very close to what it was supposed to be and no one cares, which is kinda sad. The updates they've made (both here and the one before it) look like they're fixing most of the issues with the game. I'm still hoping for an eventual Xbox release, because it seems like it could be enjoyable enough if you're starting it fresh now.

1.3 and the 60% off is enough for me to throw money at it. I'll try it out, and if it sucks at least I didn't pay full price for it.

I haven't played since vanilla and y'know what, I've started a new game and it's doing a much better job of giving me a steady stream of things to do. It looks nicer, the robot isn't as annoying and the appears to be more to do in the space stations.... obviously as I'm in the early game I cant speak too in depth about the additions but I think I like this.

I came back to it when they released the base building, photo mode and vehicles but only the photo mode was of interest to me. I'm gonna give it another shot with this update to see if the new lore and quasi multiplayer do enough to get me back in. Having said that I did play like 40 hours of it when it first came out so I feel like even if it's not enough that I got a lot out of it so far.

I never left, got over 100 hours in it and always found it to be such a relaxing and pretty experience. I love sci-fi and this, this is something that makes me happy. 1.3 is amazing and huge, im pretty hyped. I never understood how someone can hyperbolize this and call it the worst game ever made. (surely something as life of black tiger for ps4 is worse...) Base game was a pretty ok game, but the subsequent updates made it way better and closer to their original vision. It's by no means a 10/10 but I love it.

If I were you I'd wait till the year end sales so you'd get it potentially cheaper, plus they'll hopefully have fixed whatever they effed up right now...

I may still wait for a few big patches. I got it on sale for only 20 or something a while ago, but I got it played it a bit, and decided to wait on it.

I am still excited about its potential if it gets there, but I am also going to still wait...

I guess they deserve some praise for continuing to work on it, but it's still not really the game those early trailers showed. I very much doubt it ever will be. Seems their magical procedural generation techniques were mostly hot air now they've chosen to focus on multi player, combat, crafting and base building. What does it have to separate it from a pack of similar games anymore?

I'd like it to be enough, but as someone who sunk about 20 hours into the original release, I think I was satisfied with what I got out of it. Didn't need it to be some uber game, and it's always in my back pocket if I want that experience again.

That game was going to live and die by its social aspect, IMO, and ultimately too much of that was too sour.

Ive tried to play NMS several times... every time it captures the same feeling I had when I first started playing it; the feeling of immediate regret.

The game's gameplay loop is boring. Plain and simple. Inventory Management and walking. You feel like a robot that needs to suck numbers from one pile to another pile to survive.

I've had it installed the whole time; played about 8 hours and burnt out. However, with every update I'm impressed with what they're adding. Makes me think I'll just wait until the updates are done, and ensure that I'm going to get the best possible experience.

Sure, I'll jump back in. Played for a couple of hours after the last patch and just got a little bored with what was available.

I bought it this week finally, and I'm looking forward to giving it a real shot. I liked what little I played of it, though the progression confused the shit out of me. Hopefully the story structure alleviates some of that.

No Man's Sky is one of those games that I look at when it first comes out and think "You know what, in a year this game might be pretty good." After all these updates I definitely feel like it's finally come close to what I had expectations of it being from the outset, so I'll absolutely pick it up now.

I'm actually very curious to see how much this update truly adds. The "30 hours of story" thing is weird, considering the original game doesn't really have a story and that you can pretty much play at your own pace. So I don't really know what that means. But the other features sound neat. The last time I played was about 2 months after its initial release, so I never checked out the previous updates either. Safe to say there will be a lot of new things to experience for myself.

I think it sounds pretty good now, although by saying there is much more coming I might still end up holding off. This whole thing feels like an early access game that they just decided to call finished and charge full price for. I think if they had released it last year as an early access title then people would have had an entirely different reaction to it. Calling something that was obviously not finished the final product was just a poor call on both Sony and Hello Game's part. Anyways, I might end up getting it now or I might wait for whatever the next update is going to be. We will see.

@andythemez: Never got why multiplayer was such a crucial part of this game for everyone. (not to excuse the misleading statements of Sean's)

I was always taking a wait and see approach to the game, then the bad word of mouth at launch just killed any interest. I haven't been following the updates, but I'm kind of thinking the ship has sailed. It would take a huge groundswell of people talking it up to get me into it again. I applaud them for continuing to support the game though.

I'm having fun!!! They created a new universe - and wow! I was ok when buying the game, but the worlds got repetetive after a while and the gameplay loop felt pointless. Even the combat feels satisfying now - without upgrades. I'm ready to grind!

As someone who owns the soundtrack on vinyl, but never actually bought or played the game, I should probably play No Man's Sky at some point. If I don't pick it up now with this big update, I'm not sure when I would...
