    Alis Landale sought out Noah in her quest to defeat the evil King Lassic. Noah is an Esper - one trained in magic (later known as Technique in Phantasy Star 2). 
     
    Noah is later reintroduced in  Phantasy Star 2 as "Lutz" - his original name in the Japanese version of Phantasy Star. Lutz is perceived to be the same character that defeated  King Lassic and Dark Falz (later known as Dark Force) in  Phantasy Star, freezing himself in a cryogenic sleep system. Though this seems to be a point of controversy, since it was never explicitly explained in the game that Noah and Lutz are the same character.
