I'm expecting more details about the consumer version. Let's hope there are some awesome reveals.

I'll be interested to see if they show off any first party software. The tech looks cool, but we need something good to use if for.

Edit: Given the response I've seen so far, I suppose I'm in the extreme minority in saying I thought the stuff they showed looked pretty neat.

Be curious as to what comes out of it. Not sold on VR as anything more than the next motion controls, prove me wrong industry.

Oculus with Xbox, huh?

So they're including an Xbox One controller with every Rift. I was hoping they were creating their own input system, but I suppose this makes some sense.

That virtual lounge is incredibly dumb. Why would you want to put on a VR headset just so you can see a virtual lounge and have a smaller game screen?

So much of this 'press conference' just makes me cringe - it's so thick with PR jibberish.

@gaff: The Hololens isn't virtual reality, it is augmented reality. Instead of being virtually placed into a world, like with VR, AR changes what you normally see.

Well call me surprised. They've showed some pretty cool stuff so far.

Why are they showing off stylistic third person games? Isn't that like the last thing you'd want in VR ?

Hololens is completely different it's AR. Also i believe the Hololens team is part of their R&D team, which means it's there job to just make cool stuff and see if there is a practical application, if not back to the drawing board, they don't get fired. I worked in R&D for a couple years.

The press conference has so far been pretty bad. Lot of the games shown seem like tech demos and the presenters seem a bit muted considering that they have been working on Oculus Rift for years now.Also the fact that the controller seems to be a standard xbox controller doesnt instill confidence.

I am not interested in VR at all but I am very interested to see what they do with it. There's an interesting line up of companies working with Oculus so far.

EDIT2: Q1 2016 seems way too late. I wonder if someone might beat them to market and steal their thunder (or beat them on price?). Also, press conferences are pretty lousy.

@nardak: Controller is the only interesting thing so far but that's one of the biggest missing pieces in the VR puzzle so there's that at least.

It looks like they split a xbox controller in half and added a bunch of sensors to it. Not a bad way of doing it really.

In my head, the ideal VR input is some kind of glove with haptic feedback, but practically speaking, the Half-Moon is probably the better route. The gesture recognition is pretty rad. Interested to see it in action.

If thats the final design of the helmet, they aint selling this to the mainstream till its $30 on a Target end-cap like those 3D cellphone viewfinders

All looks good enough I suppose. I don't think a VR press conference is ever going to be that impressive - it's all about the actual look and feel, something not conveyed without a personal demo.

The controllers are potentially interesting though.
