    Ok, Onlive... I'm sold now.

A console with a free game is announced for $99 bucks.
From what I've played on my Mac.. the connection/lag has greatly improved over the last couple of months .
A monthly subscription to play old games has been announced for $10 a month. (games include old sports games, Fear 2, World of Goo, and other obscure games that I've wanted to play for a while available at launch)

This plus the idea of "renting" games over the service for around 4-5 bucks means I might be able to quit my gamefly account...

is it time to take Onlive seriously?

If you already own a console or halfway decent PC, then there is absolutely now reason to get Onlive.

what an awesome technology and potentially great business model.  i don't think this will directly compete with 360 or PS3 because the games are so much better on those then the PC games (not to mention that most best PC games, even Sims now, are available on consoles).  for people who want to play multiplatformers like batman, borderlands, etc. that are awesome and also available on PC, this is going to be great.   but for people like myself who are only interested in a few of the games in the onlive library it does not make sense unless they somehow work something out with sony and/or microsoft to get console games on their service, or a ton more games come out for pc, it will be a niche market, and a small one at that.

I live in the UK and there is no way in hell OnLive would be able to work the way they say it does. Also I prefer owning my games rather than renting them. I'm happy with my PS3 and Wii.

I completely dig Onlive's concept, but I'm living in Slow Internet City 9 months out of the year and the investment just doesn't seem worth it.

Concept is nice but not for me. Hopefully it will take off and not fail right off the bat. The cheap price of only 99 bucks should stick out to a lot of people.

It works... to a point. The tech is cool, but not quite there yet, at least not  for multiplayer gaming. I'll stick with gamefly for now.

Except you're not buying a console so much as a conduit to your subscription. It'd be like charging 100 dollars for a cable box.

@ryanwho: There is no subscription fee. It's either the free service plus renting or buying any games you want, or a $10 fee per month which allows you unlimited access to a select number of games. The subscription fee you're talking about was removed from the service like 6 months ago.

Reading the OP, the full impression you get is there's a subscription and a rental fee.

@ryanwho: Well you can do both. The $10 a month subscription is essentially the same as PlayStation Plus; you just get a bit of extra content each month for free but by no means is it necessary for you to use the service. Also, just to be clear I live in Australia so I've never actually used OnLive I'm just going off what I've heard.
