Robot Entertainment's first original game, this downloadable-only title charges the player to defend their fortress from an overwhelming force of orcs and other baddies. Put simply, Orcs. Must. Die! or the fortress will fall
It's like Torchlight over again. I wonder if they'll make a sequel and pretend they had no idea people like to play games together. You're not the only one who misses it.
this game feels like it was designed around having a coop mode, its really disappointing it wasn't in there, fingers crossed on orcs must die two, or dlc
I have only played the demo but the game kinda fells like it had a bit cut out, probably for budget or release date reasons. My guess is that it was intended but cut.
From a design perspective, the ability to implement DLC like new game modes or maps would be childs play. However, the technical side of things are the big question mark here, they're using a inhouse engine right? What kind of netcode does it have?
Co-op has been made in games like this and Robot's previous work has involved multiplayer modes, the expertise should be there?
Really a shame. I like so many things about this title, hopefully they'll build upon this a lot in the future.
I'd rather have a versus mode. Each player gets a different copy of the map and both sides need to balance between sending orcs to the opponent and building your own defenses. But yeah, they missed a huge opportunity by not adding a multiplayer.
I'm glad they didn't shoehorn co-op in just to tick a box. The level of polish seems really impressive for a cheap game and I'm really enjoying it. I wouldn't expect it as DLC, it's too big an undertaking at this point I'd wager. Without the right hooks it might be nigh impossible to add co-op. Whereas if Robot Entertainment made a sequel they could actually push co-op and advertise it a lot better than if they added it as DLC.
