Here's the thing: I trust you guys. I trust that you wouldn't go into a deal like this without some guarantees. I trust that you will continue to be what we liked in the first place. I trust there will be separation between the two entities.

Here's my problem: I think every website that gets acquired by a bigger conglomerate said that at one point - including the many times throughout internet history where it ultimately ended badly. And I bet everything is fine and great, right up until it isn't any more. Right up until CBS has a change of management, or a change of direction. Right up until Gamespot has a change of management. You might trust the current regime to be completely cool with everything Giant Bomb is, but who is to say guys like John Davison will be around in 2, 5, 10 years?

So in the short term, I'm fine with this news. I think all of the anti-Gamespot stuff here is kind of silly, because the old regime there is pretty much gone. You're basically just hating a domain name, at this point. I'm more bummed that this means we are probably going to have several more days with little to no new content, than I am about the news itself.

I just have longer term concerns. Your new bosses ultimately own Giant Bomb. and they can have a professional change of heart at any time, for any reason. And if that happens - then what? You all quit, and ask us to come with you to start over again?

I trust that you've thought this through, and that it was ultimately necessary to keep doing what you do. I never really understood how Whiskey Media's business plan worked with limited ad presence, and only several thousand people giving you $50 a year - clearly that wasn't sustainable long term, as I kind of suspected.

Just... don't let the man bring you down, okay? Promise me that, and I will go down this new rabbit hole with you. As long as you guys can keep doing what you've been doing, most of these other people losing their minds will eventually calm down.

This. This to the end of days, to the bitter end.

But so what if they can't keep doing what they want? Are you actually so blind to history as to be worried? You talk like the Bombsquad will be relegated to some gulag and forced to perform manual labor. Do you really think it is beyond them to quit, and start another great company? GiantBomb can not be silenced.

    I directly addressed that point.

Hasn't the old Gamespot dictatorship left since Gerstmanngate? Bitter pasts aside, I think it's only reasonable to team up with a company with more capital if you want to expand.

And GB guys.....I will be VERY disappointed in you if ANYTHING happens to the Grass wiki during the transition.

I'm optimistic, but cautiously so. I'll keep supporting the crew like I have. The personalities and comedy got me here and kept me here, so i'll keep coming back.

And if it sucks, maybe they'll all leave and start an independent website about videogames. It worked once!

This means better working conditions by a lot for the GB guys and better salaries. So I'm happy for you guys and this situation. It's tragic to see you go back to CNET though. They're just a terrible company ad I hope they don't ruin you but you have integrity and talent so that won't happen probably.

A lot of people are acting like fucking children, and a lot of people making wild speculations that obviously haven't watched the video (where the guys directly address a lot of the worries and complaints). AT MOST people should be cautious or skeptical, I for one am as stoked as the guys are. They are the reason I come to this website, and if they are super excited about it then why shouldn't I be? At least give them the benefit of the doubt instead of cutting and running without even giving them a chance to show you what this means.

    Well...this is horrible news.

I looked forward to GB. I supported GB. I hate Gamespot and everything behind Gamespot.

I feel like this is going to go down a road that is going to suck....major suckage.....

I guess it all comes down to money sooner or later. Very disappointed this had to happen. If any garbage leaks in like the crap over at Gamespot.......well that will be the end. I will not be a Gamespot member....so that's that.

Really looking forward to next year's announcement of "hey we decided to become one website" while they eat fish tacos to show that "they still get it."

CBS just created a redundancy with its games coverage, and the first rule of running a profitable business (check out the joystiq-1up news for today as proof of this) is to eliminate redundancies.

It's been real folks, I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think I'm alone when I say that one of the main reasons I was a premium member was to support a small community driven website, that had a lot of original ideas, and great personalities. The subscriber only content was the icing on the cake.

Now, I can't help but feel like we were duped into supporting this website, only to be used as a metric on how quickly the site has grown, and make the website more attractive for buyers.

They all seem happy about this and like they made sure that they still get to be the Giant Bomb that we all love. I followed Jeff from GS to his Points! videos to Giant Bomb and I'll continue to follow him wherever he goes. Vinny has become one of my favorite people thanks to GB and I hope that things work out so he can always happily stay with GB. If Jeff is willing to forgive GS and go back, then I am too.

They do need to continue QLs and the podcast since those are their main things and are daily/weekly things I look forward to. Hopefully they don't Skype Alex into every podcast though.

Very excited to see what they do now that they have more funding and resources. Congratulations, guys.

I am more concerned about Tested being turned into a more family friendly website and Screened and Rorie going out of business at the new "Whiskey Media". Nothing about this deal for GB seems all that bad, they way Jeff talks it sounds like they are getting a lot of clout at GS.

Jeff's probably right when he says that Evil Executive Corporate Hands won't be touching Giant Bomb and haven't been touching GameSpot, but that doesn't make a reality show about Call of Duty hosted by Jonny Moseley any less terrible. The guys at Giant Bomb not only need to avoid men in suits demanding specific review scores (which they claim won't be a problem), they also need to avoid devolving into the same fanboy-driven nonsense GameSpot has become.

Best of luck to them, but Christ Almighty is Gamespot exactly what I don't want out of video game coverage.

If that's the case, then neither of you really respected these guys, or their integrity.

Personally, I've thought the writing was on the wall for a while now that something big was going to have to change. You can't get by running five websites, with all of WM's employees, on a handful of ad contracts and a few thousand people giving you $50. Not for long, anyway.

Sorry, I feel like I need to make a second post here.

    This is F'ING HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just the other day I was commenting to someone about how Giantbomb is the only site on the internet worth anything. It is a bastion, it is an oasis in a fucking dessert of garbage, ad ridden, news-less, entertainment-less sites.

Everything ends....ok sure. This is ending because of Money. Great. At least admit to it sucking and try not to spin it into a good thing.

By and large, anything that makes a wonderful little company into a representative of a larger, publicly-traded corporation is bad news -- but I respect the fact that Whiskey's business model was secondary to creating exciting content, and that users like us have been subsisting on the charity of a few venture capitalists for quite some time now, even despite our generous contributions. This situation is probably the best way it could've possibly turned out.

I just hope we haven't seen the end of three-hour Bombcasts and subscriber-only-type videos, or the type of cursing we've grown to expect over the years. You guys create the most amazing game-related programming on the Internet, and without these things I feel like something would be desperately missing.

I'm excited about the opportunity that this represents for the Giant Bomb crew that we've all grown to know and love over the last few years, but frankly also worried after watching TechCrunch essentially disband after being acquired by AOL.

What it boils down to for me is whether Jeff would have signed off on this if he had any doubts, especially considering the circumstances of his previous departure (which I'm on pins and needles for until 7pm EST, to hear the full story). If there's anything I've learned about the man over the last decade +, it is that his instincts are pretty damn good.

I plan on sticking around and supporting the motley crew as much as ever, and I hope everyone else reading this does so as well.

Integrating Gamespot is going to destroy the last bastion of a worthy site on the net. Bringing people over from gamespot is going to suck. Doing anything with gamespot is going to suck. There is a reason GB had the community it had, it is because everyone fucking hates gamespot.

I'm happy for them. As long as nothing site wise merges directly with Gamespot. What I mean is if someone gets banned on Gamespot, they shouldn't get banned on all other connected sites. Things of that nature.

Otherwise, more power to you, just don't lose yourselves in trying to make really awesome looking stuff all the time. Remember people enjoy the handycam moments where Brad has to try some random Swedish candy, and Vinny is laughing manically.

Given how the crew at whiskey media and giant bomb take these decisions seriously in the mind that benefits us and their enjoyment of thir job, I'm optimistic about this.
