    Overview

A par time is a completion time applied to the completion of an event, such as a race or the finishing a stage. It is an incentive for the player to target, and matching or surpassing such a time may yield special rewards to the player. Some modern games still utilize par times as well as letter grades and high scores to rank players. Par times are in general designed to be achievable by any player with enough practice. More skilled players will attempt to push their time as far under the par as possible.

In some games, completing a level under par will reward the player with additional points in the form of a time bonus multiplier.
