looks so silly

Found Patrick playing the Oculus Rift in Iceland
I'd love to see a GIF of Patrick moving his head in a circle wearing the Rift over and over and over.

I guess that's cool if you aren't aware that other blind people exist.

Oh most definitely. That's actually all they teach at schools for the blind.

Now that's comedy!
But where's Drew?!
Drew ran off from Patrick's grasp like a young child at an amusement park. He won't show up again till Patrick is in line checking in for the flight home and Drew suddenly appears with entirely different clothes than what he brought with him, no luggage, a 3 inch long graze on his jawline, and a stuffed pelican under his arm.
Oh man, I've gotta get one of these. Does anyone else freak out when they see an Occulus Rift? I mean this was literally science fiction when I was growing up, it looks like something out of Ghost in The Shell. Eve seems like a perfect game for this thing too.
Oh and Syndicate?! I just got it during that $4.00 sale, that presentation and UI design would be god damn awesome through a Rift.
Ha! Still think this looks stupid as hell. But I'd be willing to see it myself before entirely ignoring it.
That's not the only thing Patrick did in Iceland http://instagram.com/p/Yn90_TDxA8/
What he's eating is great.
That one bit about E3 sounded to me that Sony or Microsoft or even both will support Oculus Rift with their consoles. That would be awesome.
I hope they do, because i don't really play PC games so i would like to try it on consoles if i could.
And since Sony has talked a little about how Unity Engine will work with all there platforms, and that engine works with Oculus Rift out of the box, it may not be out of the question that they would help support it. Since it probably wouldn't be that difficult to integrate, because i believe you just need to hook it to the HDMI port, so the only real barrier is that developers would have to code for it.

I'm sure they will never read it

I'd watch that Wes Anderson movie.

Who cares if it looks stupid? I mean it's not like you'll be playing with it on a bus or anything... the immersion this thing brings is awesome (but of course as with any other peripheral of this kind it's awesomeness depends on how the devs use it), I myself will be getting one on launch day.

The Oculus absolute requires 60FPS from what I have heard, if you play games at 30FPS you will most likely get a headache. So if most console games will still run at 30FPS next gen it would require the developers to make a 60FPS mode with worse graphics. So it won't be as simple to support as on PC were Unity will probably do most of the work for you.
This CCP space sim cockpit view demo has gotten me really, really excited for the oculus rift, I do hope this thing succeeds.
That's the one thing I'd convert to an Oculus Rift in a heartbeat for, SPACE SIMS. This could herald the return.
@rhombus_of_terror: CliffyB talked a little about it on twitter:
@therealcliffyb"I've said it before and I'll keep saying it - mark my words, Wing Commander/Freespace style space combat games are coming back in a big way."
"Imagine asteroids...capital ships...stars... nebulae ...space stations...dogfights... all on a top of the line PC or next gen console in VR."
I sincerely hope he's right.

I know that not every game would use it, because it is basically in the same boat as supporting 3D glasses, but with even more resources and restrictions needed to be devoted to it if you want to do it right. And with consoles people cant be expected to go out and buy a better graphics card if they want to use this, sacrifices have to be made somewhere on standard hardware unlike PC. But i can see some indie and downloadable games using it, because they are usually trying to do something unique and different, and people don't hold them to the same standards as a AAA developer making the next shooter.
I just don't want Sony or Microsoft to keep a developer from using it if they so desire. And i kinda want to try it myself without having to buy a high end PC to play with it, but that will more then likely be the case.

Star Citizen supports it and that game (though far away from release) sounds super interesting.
Doesn't hurt that Chris Roberts(dude behind Wing Commander) is behind that game either.
He said, and I quote: "I feel like I’m making a game for the enthusiast. If someone not only spent the money on a gaming PC to play Star Citizen, but also dropped 100, 200 dollars on some other equipment, I want to be able to say to them ‘You paid for it, you should be able to use it"

I kind of feel like an ass for saying this, but I can't imagine eating a whale. Not only are they highly endangered, whales are incredibly intelligent, human friendly creatures. It's one thing eating an animal too stupid to know when to run, but eating a whale to me feels the same as eating a cat or a dog, which I know people also do but I just can't imagine eating an animal of that intelligence level. Whales mourn their dead. They have funerals and the like. Just the sorrow you are causing the entire pod when you kill a whale is just too much for me to possibly imagine eating them.
@raven10 Don't worry. They're not highly endangered in the Atlantic. Besides, the countries that do the whaling(Norway and Iceland) have quotas and won't overfish. We're very careful about that.
They eat cats and dogs in Asia. Pigs are more intelligent than dogs, yet we eat them. Don't judge just because it's different from your own culture.
Whale funerals <--Funniest shit I've read all week.

Since the max resolution for the Rift is 720P I really see no problem running games in 60 FPS. You even could do a option 1080P and 30 FPS without and 720P and 60 FPS with Oculus Rift.

They are aiming for 1080p for the retail version, because one of the only complaints people have is the low resolution screen on the dev kits. You also still have to render two images for stereoscopic 3d, so they would need to render 960x1080 (1080p split in 2) twice in 60fps. You also don't want the game to drop below 60fps, because it is far more disorienting on the Oculus Rift then a 2D image losing frames. Im sure it can be done on next gen consoles, but you still need to set aside a good bit of resources to do it.

Most console games are 720p and 30FPS though. Maybe it will change next gen but probably not as devs seem to prefer to add extra graphical effects. Also, 720p is only for this first dev kit they want to use a 1080p screen in consumer versions.
I hope consoles will support it too. But devs will have to do more work to support it, so I don't think support will be as widespread as on PC.
@ahaisthisourchance: I'm not judging it because it is different. I just think it is morally wrong to kill an animal that is most likely self aware and that forms close familial relationships. I wouldn't eat a cat, dog, monkey, horse, or elephant for the same reason. Pretty much any animal that mourns its dead to me shouldn't be killed unless it is required for survival.
And I thought whale funerals were interesting when I heard about it too. I just read about it the other day. I don't remember what type of whale it was, but scientists found these whales in a funeral procession and eventual ceremony. Elephants also have funerals for their dead. I guess if an animal is smart enough to want to hold a funeral for a lost relative then I just couldn't imagine myself eating it.
And I want to make sure I am clear that I am not trying to insult any culture. People eat horses in the US and I don't do that. A lot of Europeans think we are crazy for it. But it wasn't until just a year or two ago that most horse butchers were shut down. For most of the existence of the US people ate horse. There are just some things that I can't bring myself to eat and it has nothing to do with culture. They eat scorpions and bugs in some southeast Asian countries. I wouldn't be against eating those or against eating snails as they do in France.

I am not talking about the PS3/360 or wii U. Otherwise new consoles should perfectly be able to support Rift.
@raven10 It's cool. You're entitled to your opinion. I respect that. Just remember that animals are not people.
Horsemeat is common here(Europe) too.
What do you mean "common in Europe" ? I live in Europe and while Horsemeat is something you could eat in Denmark if you wanted to it's not exactly what I would call "common" around here compared to like bacon or chicken o.O
@zeforgotten As common as I can go to the grocery store and find some horse meat sausages there.
@ahaisthisourchance: That does sound common but I doubt it's like that for everyone in Europe though.
In fact, I know that it's not like that for everyone. I would have to go to a special butcher who actually sold horse meat.
I'm not even sure I know where there is one.
Now I have to find out, thanks :P
