Greetings all, was just wondering if there are any plans in the works for a Giantbomb meet up during PAX Australia?

As a queenslander and observer (not contributor) of the forums I don't see myself as someone to organise but if there are plans or someone to organise, we should probably get rolling.

EDIT: My twitter is @TheFridgeGC if we need to communicate later there.

So, since Ryan/Jeff haven't said anything official, here's the round up of what I know so far about it:

    • Jeff and Ryan are confirmed to be going.
    • They have a panel on Friday night at 7:30. PAX Australia won't be recording the panel, but they've borrowed some GamespotAU guys to record the panel.
    • They'll be here in Melbourne for the very least, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - what they'll be doing then, who knows.

As for drinks, I'm unfamiliar with Ascot Vale and that area where the show is, but I know my way round the CBD, Chapel and St. Kilda pretty welll. Depends how many people there are and what the boys are after..

It depends on what we want. I would guess around the CBD would be the best for all involved (easy for locals to get too and for interstate/internationals with their hotels)

Do we want a pub experience like http://www.puggs.com.au/ (Pugg Mahones) with a tonne of space for a meet up?

Or do we go the fancy route and head to a stupidly expensive cocktail bar and get insanely drunk on dumb drinks?

    Hell anywhere but Chapel St.

The showgrounds where PAX is being held has its own train station, so you shouldn't need to worry about finding a way to get somewhere else, as there's really nothing around that area.

There's quite a few pubs and stuff around the city itself that you could check out, though there's one really obvious, and probably utterly terrible choice, for a place to go. The Mana Bar. I hear the place isn't that big though, also being during PAX it's probably going to be filled up anyway.

As an Australian ex-pat living in the bay area, just make sure you boys get them a Kebab once drinks are done. If there's one thing I miss, it's a 2:00am Kebab.

Damn it, why did you post this exactly at 2AM Melbourne time. Now I want a kebab.

It's also in Brunswick, and has a alcohol licence til 11pm, so it's probably the worst place to attend. Lots of places in the city, wait til the guys announce it and get things rolling, I suspect they're more worried about E3 right now.

Puggs are shitty chain 'Irish' pubs. I have no idea why you would ever want to go to any of them. The Mana Bar is also an utter shithole. Chapel Street is not worth looking at at all. Your best bets are Fitzroy for the nicer bars or certain bars in the city. I can give suggestions based on the type of place you want to go to.

The Carlton is awesome, it has a rooftop bar.

    a) The place is full of bogans

    b) You won't get a bunch of dudes in there unless you have girls with you.

    a) The same could be said for just about any pub in the CBD.

    b) Don't go in with a bunch of dudes then. Also, who's to say that girls won't be attending the meetup?

    c) I don't plan on attending it anyway.

I get the impression that the crew are more bar than pub guys and i think the CBD must be the place for this.

Problem is, most decent bars are way too small to hold anywhere near the amount of people i would expect to come to something like this.

If only 1806 or Golden monkey held more people.
