Overview
PAX West 2019 was the thirteenth Penny Arcade Expo to take place at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington and the sixteenth PAX in the Seattle area. It was the thirty-ninth PAX overall since the show began in 2004.
The PAX West 2019 Storytime Session (keynote) speaker was Gary Whitta.
Registration & Attendance
This was the first time since PAX Prime 2014 that a full weekend badge was offered.
Registration for PAX West 2019 began on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 12:00 PM PDT.
- 4-Day ($222 US) - Sold out with 1 hour.
- Friday ($57 US) - Sold out August 20.
- Saturday ($57 US) - Sold out with 75 minutes.
- Sunday ($57 US) - Sold out on June 17.
- Monday ($57 US) - Did not sell out.
The PAX 10
A panel of 50 industry experts rated dozens of submissions to narrow it down to just ten. To be eligible for entry, games cannot have outside funding, cannot be mods of existing games, and must be in at least beta form. Previous games featured in The PAX 10 include Celeste, Ridiculous Fishing, Rogue Legacy, Bastion, Audiosurf, Johann Sebastian Joust, Machinarium, Fez, Darkest Dungeon, Night in the Woods, and The Maw.
The Omegathon
The Omegathon is an annual tournament held at PAX that pits 20 randomly selected attendees in a three day marathon of games that span the spectrum of the gaming universe. After each round, some participants are eliminated. Each year, the final game is held secret until moments before the final two Omeganauts enter battle.
