Its somewhat easy if you have the right motherboard and CPU. Alot of Intel CPU's can reach insane speeds on just the stock cooler if you do it right.

I learned how to do it through online guides and whatnot, Its all about balance and testing, just reach the right Multiplier to voltage ratio and then stress test it to make sure its stable and check on the temps to make sure its not overheating. Once you get the hang of it you can push it even higher.

The primary one i used is here, I would ignore the "Special Overclocking Tools" section, but the rest of the guide is pretty accurate.

    Maru, Jangofett, fucking beast systems!

My computer sucks. Really. It does. Yet somehow I'm an exclusively PC gamer. X300 SE 128 mb, 2.8 ghz p4, 512 mb ram. Runs games like crap. It's mostly cause when I upgrade I want to upgrade to something that lasts, so I'm probably going to spend in excess of $1500. My current cost me like $800 bucks four years ago.

I only have laptops at home...I haven't owned a desktop in years.  The only laptop I have that even has a dedicated video card is:

    Core 2 Duo T7500
    4gb PC5300 DDR2 RAM
    256mb 8600M GT video card

It does well enough.  I mainly use it for playing strategy games and what not when I travel.  I've only had it a few months...so far the only games I've installed on it have been Titan Quest, Company of Heroes, WOW, and as of today, Warhammer Online.
