I upgraded to 7 from XP a couple years ago. I like 7. Win 8 is garbage. We'll see about 10.

Anyone still using Windows 7?
@geraltitude: What's this about 8 being Vista 2? I've never had, nor heard of, any major problems with it.
@believer258: there's nothing wrong with Win 8, but it's adoption rate, both in enterprise and consumer markets, can only be compared to Vista. For Windows, enterprise is king. But anyways basically 8 should have taken over where 7 left off. But it didn't. People stuck with 7, by and large. Same thing that happened with Vista. It should have taken over, but it didn't, people stuck with XP. In the case of Vista it was truly fucked. In the case of 8 not so much.
I've been rocking Windows 7 since the college discount thingy. Windows 8.1 seems fine after fiddling with it on other computers, but I am super happy with 7 for now. Considering that Windows 10 will be free I'll probably upgrade just to enjoy the longer support.
I had 28 days of uptime until some random thing restarted my computer, probably an update. So I can't complain about 7's stability.
Still on 7. Never had a reason to go to 8 or 8.1. Windows 10 looks promising though. I think I'll switch assuming that Windows 10 doesn't implode after launch like Vista did.
I have 2 machines, one is running Windows 7 and one is running Windows 8.1. Windows 8 is fine. Windows 8 can be quite annoying at times, because all the settings options are behind some unfamiliar touch-screen like interface, which can be confusing locating things that I have been doing in windows since '95. The main hurdle though, is getting passed Metro UI, and I use Classic Shell for that.
There are things that just work better in Windows 8, and somethings that just don't work at all. For instance, syncing PS4 controllers via Bluetooth is way easier in Windows 8 than 7. There are a bunch of work arounds to get it working right in windows 7...Same machine with same BT adapter running windows 8 and it just syncs on the first try. However, with Windows 8 the WIFI would drop connection after like 20 seconds and go into limited mode before I installed the intel wifi drivers. Works afterwards, but I know there are a bunch of people that still have issue with Windows 8.1 and wifi.
I wont change until I have seen sufficient testing to show that compatibility for old stuff is at least the same as Win7.

This. I'll wait till I can get some decent drivers for my hardware and for software support to increase.
I really like Windows 7, but for me I feel like there are now good reasons for an upgrade.
I have a pretty old, but still chugging desktop with win7 installed. Never enjoyed the look of win8 and never really had a reason to upgrade. win10 is tempting, but I feel like I should wait before jumping in head first with the upgrade.
I use 8 and like it a lot. Snappy and customizable. Never got the hate for it at all. I don't get the Start menu thing.
Same. Always got the impression a lot of hate for Windows 8 came/comes from people who either have never used it or have used it only briefly. I say -most- as it's obviously perfectly reasonable to prefer 7 over 8 but there's nothing inherently wrong with 8.

Agreed. There's not much of a reason to drop 7 for 8 (though I think it is supposed to be faster, idk exactly). Anyways it's perfectly fine. Hyperbole on the internet! Surprising!
I have two PCs, one running 7 and one 8.1.
7's great but 8.1 (once you get rid of Metro, I lasted about a day) is, for me anyway, better. With an SSD I boot into a fully usable OS in 10 seconds and I've had no problems with old game compatibility that I didn't have with 7.
Heck, I even use the weather app.
Been messing around with the W10 Beta and I like what I see. Still not sold on what they've done to the start menu but that's not a biggie. Will probably upgrade pretty quickly once it's released and reports are in.

Well, the thing was that the changes Windows 8 did to the UI didn't make anything better for non-touchscreen users. It wasn't terrible though, and the people who bought Windows 8 machines and then downgraded to Windows 7 are crazy, but I certainly don't think Windows 8 improved anything on the usability side.
@fisk0: Like I said I like the OS but I agree with you. It just felt faster, which was enough for me.
Maybe I just settle but I've been happy with Windows for a while. If it just runs better, is more secure, etc I'm pretty happy. The UI changes didn't piss me off at all either. just adapted pretty quickly.
I get why people wouldn't feel the need to upgrade at all.
@hayt: Is that list from Steam? Otherwise, I don't see how XP could be that low. It would seem the majority of PCs worldwide are still on XP or 2000, 98, 98SE, ME. First world countries, XP/Vista/7/8.1 would be more evenly matched. First world users on a high end gaming PC platform (Steam), yeah, 7 and 8 would be more likely.
@rachelepithet: That looks like a Steam user survey report.
Still rocking 7 here. As an aside, I didn't change OSes until 7 came out and I was still rocking XP. So, I hope 10 is worth the update.
Had to format the PC after a CPU upgrade and decided to buy a cheap 8.1 license to try it out.
And it's not bad at all once you set it up right with stuff like classic shell, no need to use that start screen nonsense.
There are some neat things like right clicking the start menu brings up lots of useful shortcuts like "programs and features" or "device manager" plus I really like the new task manager, and it does seem to be a bit faster.
Though really there's no reason to "upgrade" to it, had I not formatted I would still be using 7,
Yep I'm still using Windows 7, and while I'm definitely upgrading to windows 7 (solely because of DirectX 12) I'm not going to upgrade right away until I know games are 100% compatible with win10 first before going over too fast and find half my games don't work. This goes hand in hand with various other driver support as well like sound drivers and various other programs, photoshop, OBS ect..
According to steam's hardware surveys
46,67 % still use win7 64 bit
28,73 % use 8.1 64 bit.
I still use windows 7, and I'll probably jump on 10 when it gets released.
Only use Windows 7 x64 Enterprise at work. We use that in conjunction with Active Directory for all our users. Been using Windows 10 for my main & gaming desktop, and have been very pleased with it so far. I run Windows 8.1 x64 Enterprise on my Surface Pro 3.
Windows 7 isn't close to obsolete yet. There's still a huge number and majority of Windows users that use it on a daily basis. It's a great operating system. Windows 8.1 and 10 are much faster and more efficient operating systems than Windows 7, but they come with their negatives/drawbacks.
