need some help. I got a G400 mouse yesterday, this is my first dpi heavy mouse, in the past i havent bothered with gaming mice, as i have been playing good with my old Logitech non gaming mouse.

But as it stands i have no clue what settings i should use dpi wise. I played some Battlefield 3 last night and i played like shit, i guess part of it is getting used to the higher dpi, i think i used 1800 last night, which is much faster than my old mouse. And i dont even dare set it on 3600.

So what settings do you guys use in general?

actually for more precision you want to set it very low, when i snipe i use about 500 dpi, when i use a shotgun i crank it up to 2000(for faster camera turning).   Use the dpi switcher, if it's anything like my g500(which i have) you can program 5 DPI settings and switch on the fly and find out which one is more comfortable for you.  My dpi setup is in 500 increments,  500 - 1000- 1500 - 2000 - 2500

I prefer an 1100 area DPI (I'm currently on a G5 so settings should be comparable but I think we're using a different sensor with a different max resolution so maybe they're not equivalent) and I'm just too used to the feel of a slightly accelerated but fixed DPI so I rebind the DPI changing functions to other keys and lock it.

Obviously you also have the potential of the Logitech app to detect games and so change stuff from there (when normally operating then the Logitech driver takes the input DPI and refresh rate and pushes it to Windows and Widows also has a multiplier (the OS mouse sensitivity level - you can link them in the Logitech app) and also potential acceleration settings) so there are more settings than just the DPI that change how the mouse feels.

So my current settings right now (if you want to compare) are 1150 DPI, 500 report rate, OS speed and acceleration settings (where the setting is one notch below the middle for speed and enhance precision on).

Ok so you use acceleration in windows, do you leave it on in the logitech application also?

I have no idea about DPI, but my RAT 3 has 4 settings for sensitivity and I almost always keep it on the 2nd lowest one. Then go to lowest for sniping. Sometimes I set it higher if the game doesn't feel right on default settings.

Yeah i guess when it comes down to it, its a individual thing. I just tried some Tribes at 1000 dpi, think i just need to get used to it.

@pornstorestiffi: I've read that to get the most out of the high DPI's, you wanna crank it up as much as you can on the mouse, and then lower the in game sensitivity all the way down to basically nothing. That way, you won't move ridiculously fast but you will be able to take advantage of the higher precision - or something. Of course, then whenever you go back to desktop you mouse will zip around like crazy...

I personally have my MX518 on like the second lowest setting, but I think it maxes out at 1600 anyway. It's probably at 1200 which has served me fine in BF3.

Yeah naturally someone using a high DPI mouse for years will be used to the idea of always playing on higher settings. I'm like you, pretty used to gaming with a normal mouse, this RAT 3 is the first time I've bought a gaming mouse. I'm still trying to get used to aiming with a mouse in general (got back into PCs like 9 months ago), let alone with crazy high DPIs.

Hah I still use my crappy 12 year old Dell PS/2 keyboard though. I should get a Das Keyboard soon though. Get my clacky typing on.

I switched my old plain Logitech board out with a G110 same day i also got the G400. I have been in hell adjusting to both. I keep making typos cause the key spacing isn't the same, really messes me up. The old Logitech mouse i used was produced in 2001 so its really old but god damn it works.
