I just bought a new PSU for my rig and forgot to set the voltage to 230v and left it set at 115V.......

When i turned it on ofcourse, i got the huge bang and spark!!!!!

What will I have fried in my computer? would it just be the PSU? or will everything have gone?

I had everything connected correctly apart from setting it to 230v.

turned it on and got the bang with the spark.

i cant see any visible damage to any components but could anything have happened? I don't have another PSU to test it with

Open it up (while it's still on, of course) and poke around a bit with a fork (knives work too). If that doesn't work, then I don't know what will.

Most likely PSU and Motherboard just went. However anything connected is at risk. If the old PSU you had still works give it a test and maybe the only thing that went was the Power Supply.

Most premium PSU's would probably protect your PC, but cant be 100%.

lets face it, your gonna need a new PSU anyways, so I would just buy that part again and try it before buying anything else.

    Smooth.

There might be some minor damage to other components, but it's just your PSU most likely that needs replacing.

I got a complete refund for the PSU!!! I managed to bluff the store into thinking the voltage switch was faulty and they credited my account in full!

I learned a valuable lesson today....

Eh could of just said you turned it on and it exploded on you instantly. Probably would of refunded you anyway for defective hardware. NewEgg in the states is pretty good with RMAs even if its your own fault they often replace for you if you don't tell em its your fault lol. Did anything else get fried?

lots of power supplies are built to save the motherboard when they blow... and they all blow eventually, not just so loudly or colorfully. I'd pop in a new power supply and hope for the best. I'd bet on it working.

Set the switch on the PSU on the back of it is what he meant, there are different voltages for different areas of the world. It has nothing to do with Overclocking.
