    Hi all,

My old notebook is on its last legs, so I'm cautiously shopping around for a new one. I'm having a really hard time with it though!

What I'm looking for is a decently priced (windows) notebook that is really good at storing/playing video content and making/playing music (being able to use music software), preferably with a nice big sized screen.

I don't need it to play video games at all.

    Do ya'll have any tips?

*Oh yeah, and I don't need it to be very mobile. I'll only use it at home.

    Price range?

If I were going to buy a laptop that wasn't a Surface Pro, I'd probably go with an XPS15. I believe they come with a 1050 nowadays and can be fitted with a standard drive for more space in exchange for drive speed.

Also, if you're only going to be using it at home, why not a desktop? You'll get so much more for so much less.

If all you want it for is music and movies, just get the cheapest 17-inch you can find.

But, like Zelyre said, since you're not taking it anywhere, you'll get a better value with a desktop. You just want a decent monitor and a sizable hard drive. Specs don't really matter. And, you can always upgrade later if you feel the itch to play some games.

I want to be able to use the laptop in the bedroom to watch movies/tv, and in the living room to do the same. So I want it to be mobile inside the house, at least.

Plus I don't have the space/a desk to set up a desktop situation right now. I'd rather stick with a notebook.

The XPS15 looks really nice but it's a little above my price range. I'm looking for something that's more like 700-800 USD.

    Thanks for the comments, guys.
