As if I don't spend enough money (and time) on games over my PS3, PSP and Wii, I've decided it's really time I picked up Steam, as there are lot of cool indie PC games I feel I should almost definitely check out.
 
I'm just installing the application now and wondering what I should check out. Bare in mind - my computer is not a powerhouse, it's a pretty bog-standard desktop from a couple of years ago. Also, I'm just looking to Steam for some throwaway fun.
 
I'm very much a "console" gamer, so I'm not interested in RTS or anything like that, and I don't have a PC gamepad.

Steam has these nice buttons "Games under 10$" and "Games under 5$".

Torchlight and Audio Surf are both on sale today, they would be great purchases.

World of Goo is really good, so is Osmos.

I'd thoroughly recommend Obulis. It's a really fun and original puzzle game that kept me hooked for ages.

I love Audiosurf. For me, it's about more than just the music, it's also the challenge you get when you find a really tough song and crank up the difficulty. Once I discovered songs like that, I got into the mindset of finding more songs that get that crazy. Techno comes to mind. 

At their price it'll do you a World of Goo (I'm hilarious) to get as many indie games as you can before the sale ends. At least, there's no excuse for you to avoid Torchlight.

It always starts off with $10 here and $5 there, then within weeks you're buying everything with a sales sticker. Happens to us all.

Get Torchlight, Trine, and Audio Surf and especially Torchlight.

Audiosurf did not really keep my attention for that long. The games that I would personally recommend for you are Blueberry Garden and Plants vs Zombies. You can play those both in fairly short sessions.

Get both seasons of Sam and Max. They're hilarious, and not very demanding on computers.
