As if I don't spend enough money (and time) on games over my PS3, PSP and Wii, I've decided it's really time I picked up Steam, as there are lot of cool indie PC games I feel I should almost definitely check out.
I'm just installing the application now and wondering what I should check out. Bare in mind - my computer is not a powerhouse, it's a pretty bog-standard desktop from a couple of years ago. Also, I'm just looking to Steam for some throwaway fun.
I'm very much a "console" gamer, so I'm not interested in RTS or anything like that, and I don't have a PC gamepad.
Sorry, if this is a dupe thread - I had a quick search but didn't find any similar threads.
(Oh, I'm not looking to spend much really either. Certainly under £10/$15).

Just Got Steam, Must Be Mad...
" Look at the steam deals. Torchlight, Trine, etc. "I've just seen Torchlight at a ridiculous price. But Audiosurf is the one catching my eye. I've heard Jeff mention it.
To bad you didn't get it like 6 days ago. They have been having steam deals all week long. I would most definetly pick up Torchlight and Trine. There is also this crazy adventure game called Machinarium that I thought was pretty cool.
World of Goo, Torchlight, Trine, Machiniarium, Cryostasis, and Osmos are really solid bets. While I've yet to play the full versions of most of them, I've played demos and they're all really quality titles.
" @torus said:Some people really love Audiosurf. For me, I found it entertaining to see it interpret a few songs from my collection and then I got bored of it. I think I paid €2 for it though, so if it's still cheap like that I'd recommend it." Look at the steam deals. Torchlight, Trine, etc. "I've just seen Torchlight at a ridiculous price. I think Defense Grid: The Awakening was one of the best purchases I made on Steam and it's on sale now. If you're into tower defense games you'll love it.
I love Audiosurf. For me, it's about more than just the music, it's also the challenge you get when you find a really tough song and crank up the difficulty. Once I discovered songs like that, I got into the mindset of finding more songs that get that crazy. Techno comes to mind.
At their price it'll do you a World of Goo (I'm hilarious) to get as many indie games as you can before the sale ends. At least, there's no excuse for you to avoid Torchlight.

And, yeah, get Torchlight, World of Goo, and Trine for sure.
If you haven't already played Bioshock and GTA4, you'd be insane not to pick em up now. Window closes in less than 24 hours! "He more than likely can't run them.
Audiosurf did not really keep my attention for that long. The games that I would personally recommend for you are Blueberry Garden and Plants vs Zombies. You can play those both in fairly short sessions.
