Hi everybody. I'm having really annoying lag spikes in all the games I play and I think it might not be limited to just games. At first I thought this was a network problem, because I only played WoW at the time and since it's an online game I figured it was a WoW problem. However, even playing offline games I am noticing it now too and it may be happening all over my computer (as in not playing any games, but browsing the web, AIM, etc.) Any of you guys have any idea whats up? This is pretty annoying and frustrating, because every 10-30 seconds my computer slows to a crawl and then perks right back up again. Here are my system specs.

looks like you've got a nice computer but your processor is too slow to keep up with everything else which could be holding your computer back
other than that if this has just started to occur I'm not sure what could be happening

Shitty thing is that this is a Laptop so I can't change the parts. Untill I can afford a nice desktop (which is not in the forseeable future) I'm stuck with it. I was hoping it was something I could rectify.

run a virus scan

seriously ... the most common cause for anything even remotely like this ... is spyware or a virus.

do a serious virus scan (if you don't have one ... lord help you) - you can nab a free one at http://free.avg.com/ and it doesn't suck
do a serious spyware scan - nab spybot search & destory from here http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

if it's not that ... i'm noticing you have an HP which normally comes packed with TONS of garbage ware just begging to be taken off by your willing uninstall button.  Go into control panel ... programs and features ... and just start removing garbage that you KNOW you don't need.  Anything that you're not sure of ... feel free to ask in here weather or not you need it, but there's a good chance that most of what you'll find in there ... doesn't need to be on your system if it's just taking up space.  BE CAREFUL though ... ask here if you're really not sure and i'll try to keep on top of it.

and if worse comes to worse ... i live in NY and will come fix your computer for you ...
okay that's a lie ... but GOOD LUCK!

just thinking as well ... if you have norton or some type of anti-virus running while you game ... try turning it off and see if that helps ... sometimes real-time scanning virus programs can really bog down slower systems ... especially lap tops.

i know it sounds crazy to suggest turning off your virus scan ... but if it helps ... at least we know a starting point and can work on a fix.
