So I'm on the hunt for some GBA games around my city (don't worry, I'll get to the point). Going through Gamestops and smaller used video game stores. Then I see this Salvation Army that just barely opened up. I thought to myself, why not look through there. I might find what I'm looking for. Well, I didn't find what I'm looking for, but I did find a few PC games...

    -Descent
    -Descent II
    -Descent III
    -Mechwarrior 4

All of them were in giant ziploc like bags and they come with their manuals and s strategy guide. So what do you think? Are they good finds at all?

I also did find a Gamecube in there for $10, but no controller or cables. Luckily those are easy to find.

Descent is a pretty awesome game. I remember that being one of the few PC games my dad played back in the day.
     Mad disorienting though.

@ESREVER: Yeah, even though all 3 were $3.50 each, I'm hoping they aged well.

Yes those are good games but I have a feeling they haven't aged well. I played descent a few years ago and remember while its good there's some differences in how things control from back then that are kind of weird.

However if you dont mind that, yes those were superb games at the time they came out.

Didn't know that, but I'm the kind of person that if I can find the game, case, and manual in a store then I'm a happy man. Hell, I'm on the look out for Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall. Even though I know it's free.

I never got into Descent. I only played the demos. As for Mechwarrior 4, when it came out it would have crushed my computer at the time.

So... my point is I'd be more psyched for Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. That's the only one I owned but I played it to death.

I was hoping this thread was gonna be on Sacrifice. And I was gonna be like "good find".
So yeah, hope you like shitty controls.

Descent 2 was my first experience with inverted controls, I was 6, therefore I have nothing but contempt for Descent.

I loved the Descent games when I was a kid. Played the hell out of them. I wasn't a huge fan of MW4 though. I vastly preferred MW3.

That's only MW4:Mercenaries, though that is arguably the best in the MW4 line. ch13696 might have MW4: Vengeance.

yes mechwarrior 4 is a good game. now that a wii is popular and ncasuals go looking for other nintendo games, a gamecube is hard to find in my erea. $10i a great deal. a n64 and gamecube use the same av cable, if it's any help.

Yep, that's what I have. I also came to find out that the version of Descent 3 that I bought is the expansion. Luckily all the games that I found came with mint condition strategy guides. Not a single tear or bend. Freakin nuts.

Yep, that does help. Especially since I'm looking for an N64 also. I thought that the Wii composite cables would fit the Gamecube, but I was wrong.

Come on,.. 'hasn't aged well'..? we're talking about the PC here. Games never die.

Descent 1 & 2 have source ports available to them. Still need the original assets as a base but:

    http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html

High res textures, advanced hardware effects, running stably and nicely on newer machines. There's one or two more source ports around but that one tends to be the most graphically impressive.

    Very nice finds btw =)

@Bats:  Fair enough. I tend to forget the communities that build around games and make them better on newer systems as I tend to run the games pure.

I have nothing against doing that, mind you (as I used the high rez stuff for stuff like Duke 3d, Quake, and looking forward to whenever Black Mesa comes out). While I myself have no problem with older games, I know anyone that isn't into older games may not like the difference (as they can be different in many ways to modern games). That is all I mean by "not aged well".

Sorry if my comment came off wrong, modifications are not the first thing that comes to mind when someone asks me about older games they find =P
