    Hey all

I am thinking of picking up some new PC games and would like your suggestions.

I play alot on Dawn of War, Football Manager 2008, Far Cry etc which are my recent buys. I don't have many PC games and so would like your suggestions on great games I should get?

    My spec's are:

Intel Pentium E2160 (1.8Ghz per core)
    2 Gigabytes of DDR(2) memory
    nVidia Geforce 8600GT 256mb
    Windows XP

    Cheers :)

when I saw that you were playing Dawn of War, I immediately had to reccomend Company of Heroes. Fantastic game, and very similar to DoW in terms of gameplay.
Also, Stalker is awesome. One of the best pc games that came out last year in my eyes

I think Sins of a Solar Empire is good game and I absolutely love Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. And if you missed any old games I would recommend Deus Ex which is my favorite PC game of all time.; the sequel was ok too. Also, if you missed the boat with Bioshock...you need to pick up that game!

I'll just second some of the recommendations already made above; Company of Heroes, Sins of a Solar Empire, Stalker and  Orange Box are all great PC games well worthy of your time.  If you've never played Half Life 2, than I strongly urge you to start with the Orange Box.

Hmm, I shall have a look at Sins of a Solar Empire as I quite liked the space combat on Star Wars: Empire at War. I will also have a see about Company of Hero's and Deus Ex. I have got Stalker already but thanks for mentioning it anyway.

Are there any other games considered must have? I dont mind any games as long as they work on that system and are populated if online playable.

Cheers for the suggestions so far though :)

Sins of a Solar Empire, Civilization IV and, although it is old, KOTOR.

Oh and maybe Galactic Civilizations 2.

I shall see about Civilization as they look interesting games. I don't want to get another Supreme Commander style game as thats too complex trying to balance all your power and resources with unit building (I am new to that game though so perhaps am being unfair as it may grow on me given time).

If you haven't played any of the hl2 games, then the Orange Box is a great deal. You can get it on Amazon for $30. Also if you liked DoW then you should check out Company of Heroes, arguably the best RTS out right now. Medieval 2 Total War is another awesome strategy game. Also I would recommend STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. I am playing it through right now and I am loving it. Looking at your system specs you could also handle Call of Duty 4 nicely, if you're interested. And if you liked Far Cry, then Crysis is even better.

I don't know if Revolution is coming out for the PC, I thought it was console-exclusive. In any case, Civ4 has been out for a while now and you should be able to pick it up for pretty cheap, and it is a much deeper game than Revolution.

I don't think you will be able to rune CoH very well but give it a try at medium settings.
On the other hand, definitely get COD4, Stalker and the Orange Box; it contains a number of fun games, especially portal.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl was really good.

And if you like that, maybe give F.E.A.R. a shot.

I just realized this is posted in two different forums. I've got a pretty big list typed up on the one in the general discussion which amounts to:

"Try Relic's other RTS series, Company of Heroes- it'll feel similar to Dawn of War, except in World War II instead of the Grim and Dark Future of the 41st Millennium.

I'm amazed no one has told you to pick up the Orange Box yet, so go ahead and do yourself a favor and get that as well. After you're done with that, start hunting down Source Mods, seeing as how it is one of the biggest modding communities in the PC gaming circle.

Galactic Civilization 2 and Sins of a Solar Empire are two great 4X strategy games on the market right now (former being turn based, the latter being real-time)

Check out the Battlefield series for some good online shooters.

Rise of Nations and the Total War series (Rome and Medieval) are also great RTSes that can be a blast to play.

There's always the Sims for sandbox/god gamers.

BioShock and STALKER are also some big titles that are great.

I'd recommend downloading the World in Conflict and Crysis demos to see if your machine can run it well, if so, try those out (Former is a WW3 RTS set in an alternate world where the Cold War goes hot in 1989 and the latter is the critically acclaimed shooter; a solid game but probably not the best one out there in my opinion)

All in all, just those last two games might be pushing it on your computer, the others should run smooth."

And then Supreme Commander is also a fun RTS if you can run it properly

difficult coz i dont know how good a 8600 card is.... but im sure it wouldn't run crysis that well even tho its a really good game to get.
Command & conquer 3 / Dawn of War / Supreme Commander would be ones for RTS games.
    Doom 3 / Quake 4 / Far Cry / F.E.A.R / Orange Box / Battlefield 2 would be ones i'd suggest for FPS!
Neverwinter Nights 1 or 2 / Guild Wars / Mass Effect would be ones i'd suggest for RPG games.....

    hope that helps dude...

Well, I will give a few different suggestions that have not been brought up yet.  The Witcher was an excellent RPG, although you might want to wait till September for the re-release where they are expanding the game.  Also, I enjoyed Gears of War on the PC, as well as Lost Planet: Colonies Edition.  And a game I am playing through for the sixth time, Vampire Bloodlines, which is an excellent game when you patch it with the unofficial patches, mods and skins.

Is Lost Planet able to run on WIndows XP with Games for Windows out of interest?

I have got the Crysis demo and it runs fine in medium, high would be a bridge too far but I get around 30 frames a second on medium easily as its not lagged (yet!).

Yeah, Games for Windows will run under XP, including Lost Planet.  The only two games under the Games for Windows banner that won't play are Halo 2 and Shadowrun, because they were coded with OS checks.

It's kind of on the old side (2006), but Oblivion was one of my favorite games ever, and at those specs you should be able to run it with minimal difficulty. Other than that, yeah, Company of Heroes, Command and Conquer 3, The Orange Box...all are good games. That 1.8Ghz processor might prove to be your hiccup though, dual-core or not. Mine runs at 2Ghz, dual-core and all that, and I can't run Crysis for crap.
