"PC gaming has always been impossible in a portable form factor, so we took a familiar piece of hardware, the keyboard, and developed an all new user interface design just for PC gaming. And quite frankly, the result just phenomenal."
Yo, fuck Steve Jobs. I love this guy, he's the most intense CEO I've ever seen and his dedication is absurd. I could hear this guy talk all day, and find this new device pretty neat. I was planning on getting the next-gen M11x or 2011 MacBook Pro during the summer but if this really works, I'll get this instead.
What do you guys think? Impressed?
...and what do you think about the SwitchBlade™? Impressed?

Razer SwitchBlade™ - The Razer CEO Is My Hero

this.
I'm no expert, but I feel that they'd land on a much bigger gold mine if they just took the keyboard part of the Switchblade and expanded on that. In other words, make an affordable one of these.
I think that's one hell of an ambitious project. As someone who has used Razer mice for the last 4-5 years, I can say that I appreciate the level of detail that goes into those. However, I also owned a pair of Razer Pirahna headphones, and those things were fucking terrible. Therefore, it's always a double-sided blade for me.
Personally, I can only say that I want to see Norm and Brad test this on Tested. If they can jam Starcraft II on that bitch, THEN I'll be impressed.
One question, though: with something like WoW, I use a LOT of the keys on a keyboard. Between macros, pots, spells, random other shit, etc... My problem is that I'm just not seeing how I can hotkey all the shit that I use to something that small.
Most fake ass scripted speeches given by a CEO I've ever seen. Additionally this thing is running on an Intel Atom processor...I can't imagine it will be able to run any modern PC games at all. In fact it just looks like it's geared towards shit games like World of Warcraft and Defence of the Ancients.
I agree. At 85 you have so many fucking spells and if you're like me, you want them all keybound. It didn't look like there was nearly enough room. Also, they didn't really showcase any graphically advanced games. It sort of worries me that they kept showcasing a 6 year mmo and low end system friendly games in general. Overall it looks interesting but totally impractical. One question, though: with something like WoW, I use a LOT of the keys on a keyboard. Between macros, pots, spells, random other shit, etc... "Woman, you are simply beautiful. That was an excellent night of intercourse, and quite frankly…our clockwork orgasms were phenomenal."
@SeriouslyNow: @oatz: Maybe they'll have an updated version with the i5/i7 with the 320M from Nvidia?
" @oatz: @Gizmo: @mrfizzy: Yo, could you picture this guy after sex?Mark my words, that video is going to be exploited to hell."Woman, you are simply beautiful. That was an excellent night of intercourse, and quite frankly…our clockwork orgasms were phenomenal."

Give it 48 hours.
i dont know what to think... seems like its useless and gonna fail, but i appreciate those people's ambitions and appreciation for PC gaming
agree with the impractical.

looking it up, i t should run things fine in all likelihood due to it only having a 7" screen. smaller than an ipad.
not sure you will want to read WoW text on it, but in general seems it should run things well at its 1024x600 resolution.

damn the thing seems like its really meant for simple gaming like laptops still really can only practically handle. The ceo is amazing though. Very good presentation voice. Commanding, informative, yet still has a calm welcoming feeling to it. Way better than steve jobbs :P
Can't be arsed to reply to everyone complaining about too few keybindings, but obviously this laptop is not meant to replace your desktop. You will not be raiding or playing arena on this PC. The things you'll do is most likely checking the auction house and dailies, and you don't need all your keybinds for that.
And quite frankly, I thought that was obvious.
i think it would be a cool moderately priced peripheral (if they stripped the PC guts out and made it a combo keyboard/ secondary monitor) but it's more likely going to be an overpriced laptop...i'll pass.
something smells like fail.... an ATOM?..... are you fucking kidding me. my cell phone has a more powerful cpu.

Nonetheless, I think you've said it best: "interesting but totally impractical".
Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see Norm and/or Brad test it out on Tested.
Not all that interested in that as a gaming system, but if Razer made a full sized keyboard that worked like that... Man, I'd be ALL OVER THAT SHIT. Also the CEO is intense as SHIT.
Why don't they just scrap the laptop and focus on a more affordable full sized keyboard that does all that shit?
I love how they're like LOOK IT CAN RUN GAMES!
*WoW*
*Dota*
*quake*
well congrats! now show me something worth while.
Like a few said. Great concept. Will sell like shit.
At first, I was interested to say the least, but then I read the Atom won't even be using the new Sandy Bridge tech Intel is developing. So what the fuck are they packing in these to make this worthwhile? Still interested, but more so worried.
" @zityz: The rumors are that the PSP2 can push out graphics like the PS3...so when Switchblade comes out, those graphics are going to look dated. It'll also be kinda embarrassing when the PSP2 has Uncharted Portable when that thing is still running WC3. "Those rumors about the PSP2 are probably false; handhelds need wattages close to the single digit scale, PS3 uses over 200W at load. It would need to improve efficiency by close to an order of magnitude (not happening, at least not for a few years) for that to become a possibility.
As for the Switchblade...it's not like people don't buy low-performance products at high prices already.
Razer, from my experience, makes the most fragile and laughably shoddy accessories this side of Chinese manufactured lead laced crap. All their products are abandoned the month they are released, and break down just after the warranty expires. All the pros still use MX518 or MS explorer mice. Steelseries, Razer, OCZ, etc. etc. are enticing the players with limited disposable income with increased results the way internet huckster peddle penile enlargement pills. Stay away, save your money.

Steelseries and Razer collectively sponsor most of the major teams in eSports. MX518 and MS Explorer are solid mice, but both Steelseries and Razer have built on them significantly.
@Ygg: The M11x is a really good portable for around $700ish. The Tested guys really like it too, and it's the only Alienware that isn't ass-raping you with price.
@Geno: Oh yeah, forgot about power useage...well, we shall see how much Sony has pulled with the PSP2 in June then.
They ought to scrap the idea of the laptop and just make a sweet full size keyboard that functions like that. I would buy that. The product they are proposing is something I wouldn't touch with a six foot stick. Great idea, awful implementation.

Like they were saying on the PC gamer podcast, it seems kind of useless. You'd have to bring a mouse, which ruins a lot of portability. The graphics card in there, the one they've said for now atleast, can barely run Civ 4. And? LED keyboard alone has to be extremely expensive, I can't imagine this thing being worth it.
" I can't trust anyone who plays a huntard "Yeah eff that, I ain't supporting those lootwhores.

I played wow for years so I would never count it out.
And I agree about having will and norm test it since I still have a lot of questions about it.
That looks cool as hell. I'm calling it right now though: It's not going to be quite as cool as this trailer makes it look.
The whole conceit behind this tech seems to be "hotkeys are inpenetrable, here have some help".
Like, the touch screen beneath the keyboard is a great idea for programmers or languages with way more characters than can fit well on your typical laptop. This seems like a superfluous use of an interesting idea. The idea of hitting caps lock and literally changing the keys? That's appealing. The idea of not having to hunt online for how to bring up special characters? Thats appealing. Gaming? WASD, space bar, mouse. I'm fine, thanks.
