    Black Friday...

    Now, for my "non-dick" answer:

I honestly would say just build it yourself with parts at Newegg or TigerDirect.

Shop at Dell's Outlet Store. Try to pick something that's a refurb; that's the good stuff. You can score some ridiculously cheap bundles there, but the packages always vary. Watch it for about a week to get a feel for how cheap you can snag a nice laptop for before you pull the trigger. Looks like you can pull some pretty insanely overpowered stuff for under a grand easily.

or if you don't want to spend a hell of alot of time building your first computer (namely a laptop) tigerdirect is good for full on laptops too.

I would recommend a Dell Studio 15. Really sturdy. Lots of options for a processor and the begining ram is 3gb. I just purchased one recently and it's great.

Hey...I've had an Acer laptop for years and it's been great. AND it was cheaper than dirt. Well, if dirt was more than $500 in 2005 that is.

Newegg is great for prices in pretty much any computer/electronics situation.
