The PC (Personal Computer) is a highly configurable and upgradable gaming platform that, among home systems, sports the widest variety of control methods, largest library of games, and cutting edge graphics and sound capabilities.
why is PC gameing any good at all?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
PC gaming will be dead in a couple of years
most of the developers tend to create their games only on consoles
PC gaming is wonderful because of its controls. There is no control scheme out there that beats the mouse and keyboard. And will PC gaming has weakened due to the need for better and better graphics and an increasing amount of piracy, it will live on for quite a while, though not in the traditional sense. Online services like Steam are the future of PC gaming along with MMOs and online shooters. The MMO genre will take a long time to be playable on consoles and it is also hard for console gamers to match the kind of games possible on a PC. Steam is an excellent service that millions of people use which is why PC gaming will continue to be a force, albeit one that has been weakened in the console era.
"with a console you put a game in and it plays greatNice exaggerated prices there...
with a PC you have to have a $4000 machine then you put in the game and install it then you have to set up a bunch of stuff
then you have to restart the computer after that the game does not play well because you don't have an $800 graphics card and the sound does not work because something odd happened during the install
so how is PC gameing better than a console where you put in the game and play and have fun with in 5 minutes for no more than $500"
"You both quickly showed how little you know about PCs."you quickly showed how a PC Fanboy you are
"kingmasters said:no if you want a computer that will run fallout 3 or farcry 2 it will cost you about $5000"with a console you put a game in and it plays greatNice exaggerated prices there...

or $260 for a 360 and the game
Other than the fact that PC games have more AAA releases than all the other consoles combined, I think that PC gaming is dead......
"Other than the fact that PC games have more AAA releases than all the other consoles combined, I think that PC gaming is dead......"the guy tells the truth
Guess You did not notice the sarcasm but ya. But the prices are highly exaggerated. Any PC built around the 500$-1500$ range could play games like Farcry better than on a console
"Other than the fact that PC games have more AAA releases than all the other consoles combined, I think that PC gaming is dead......"yeah because only like 10 PC games come out a year and lets see besides crysis and spore all those games were on the consoles already
Well certain types of games just dont work on a console. MMOs pretty much need a mouse and keyboard to work, there to many things going on to work all the controls on to a controller. Also RTS games just dont work on a console well, really wish people would stop trying, you just dont have enough control and it takes long to get things done on a controller which is kinda important for an RTS.
And as already pointed out by Thordain, a mouse and keyboard offers a far better control scheme.
"Guess You did not notice the sarcasm but ya. But the prices are highly exaggerated. Any PC built around the 500$-1500$ range could play games like Farcry better than on a console"I doubt that highly
There's a lot going on that seems to be over the OP's head. #1 You install a game to the hard drive so it can PROPERLY run without requiring a disc drive that will overwork itself and shit out after a few months to years if you're lucky. Games perform better when ran off of a hard drive.. why do you think some PS3 games require an install? Why do you think that same feature is coming to the 360? #2 Technical problems of course take place because the platform is far more vast than consoles will ever be... and the amazing thing is, I don't have to buy the next big new PC all at one time like a console because not only does that horse shit not exist, I can upgrade each part of my hardware as I see fit and I won't be breaking any sort of warranty doing so. #3 has to go to the fact that anything you can do on a console, you can do with a PC and not vice versa.
PC's are not going to die anytime soon... and really, it's fucking sad that anyone believes the platform is on its last legs. Piracy is not just a PC problem.. even very recent history proves that. Fallout 3 was leaked early for the 360 and had thousands of people sharing it within a day of the leak. Piracy is the scape goat publishers and developers alike are using to avoid putting certain games out for the PC so they can turn around and sell those games on a platform that they can get away with charging $10 more per game.
Controls - mouse is far more precise than a controller(Yes, look at how cross platform games turned out)
Backwards compatibility - Play game from the 1980s on a computer built for today.
Superior graphics - Despite the obvious bit that graphics are highly scalable right at release, ten years down the line, I'll be playing the same old game at far higher res than an old console can handle.
Don't have to buy a completely new machine every four years - Just upgrade this and that every once in a while.
It serves more purpose than just video games - From schoolwork, to 3d rendering... you already have a PC, why not have a good one?
"Guess You did not notice the sarcasm but ya. But the prices are highly exaggerated. Any PC built around the 500$-1500$ range could play games like Farcry better than on a console"No sir !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And let's not forget how to truely have a "console" experience you have to invest in a TV that costs more than a mid to high level PC + a nicely sized monitor does, and a nice new sound system that costs about half that unless you enjoy untuned, crappy stereo sound.
"You dont know a damn thing about computers, so why did you make a topic about them then?"because you get me off hahahaha
"You're a fucking idiot.yeah I'm the tool here
I spent a grand on my machine and it's been kicking for almost 2 years with no upgrades.
Tool."
Notice once facts are presented, the OP and the agreeing parties refuse to address them. I expect nothing more though.. oh well.
Yeah I just built a machine on newegg that will play Fallout 3 for $700 (includes OS, case, monitor, etc.).
Hmmm... that's a little less than $5000 isn't it.
"Cube said:Yes, you are, you fucking tool."You're a fucking idiot.yeah I'm the tool here"

I hate people like you. You know nothing about PC's, but you act like a dick and spew bullshit about how you have to spend thousands of dollars on a machine (when you don't), and forget that to get an experience of PC on a console, you need to spend money on a TV (1000-1500), and a sound system. Not to mention PC monitors have higher resolutions.
"Yeah I just built a machine on newegg that will play Fallout 3 for $700 (includes OS, case, monitor, etc.).yeah but a little LOL
Hmmm... that's a little less than $5000 isn't it."
"Notice once facts are presented, the OP and the agreeing parties refuse to address them. I expect nothing more though.. oh well."well of course I'm never going to change your mind and your not going to change mine
and if you look I never set out to do that I just asked why is PC gameing so good and you and your buddies did a fine job of that
its just the the people that say "your stupid and I'm so great" in a nerddy tone that are jackasses
you my boy have my respect
Wow OP your knowledge is as bad as your "guides".
Although I don't own a gaming PC I know that..
- Graphics are superior.
- Mods allow for more game content and it's free.
- Dedicated servers.
- Abilty to play games from Diablo to Crysis.
- MMOs.
- Blizzard.
- Customisation in controls, mouse or controller, whatever floats your boat.
It looks better and plays smoother, and software emulators allow you to play last gen CDs and enhance them to look better and play smoother. And then there's the mod scene, and then there's the kind of games that only work on a PC. Various reasons. And if you don't PC game that's fine, but don't go throwing around these ignorant and misinformed preconceptions because it makes it completely obvious you're just guessing and have absolutely no firsthand experience ie probably shouldn't be discussing it at all.

that was going to far
ok I give up thread is closed you don't have to go home but you can't stay here
I still find it laughably hilarious that you really think that you need to spend 5000 dollars on a PC that will play Fallout 3. Hilarious.
kingmasters you are the worst fucking troll ever.
You come in here with the nerve to act all pompous and self-righteous - if you really want to discuss what's good about PC gaming, let's look at it objectively and stop trying to ridicule, belittle, or make fun of anything we say.
And it sure as hell doesn't cost $4000 for a gaming PC. Since you already have a PC (most Dells and HPs within the last 2-3 years have a good processor, good RAM, and a decent motherboard). You have up to the cost of a 360 (what is it, 300 bucks?) to buy a good graphics card, and you can easily get a good one that will play games at way over the resolution of Xbox games, with AA enabled. PC gaming in the long run is only as expensive as you make it - people who are enthusiastic about the hobby enjoy spending more to get top of the line parts.
Piracy is a problem, but it's inevitable. As mentioned, community developed maps, mods, MMOs, dedicated servers, a better control scheme, and extensive customization are just a few things among what the PC offers.
Seriously, this is a blatant troll post, and unfortunately I am getting mad because he's just spitting bullshit.
. Also I find mouse/keyboard better then any controller."You are not serious Are you ?
"mracoon said:yeah that's a joke. Also I find mouse/keyboard better then any controller."You are not serious Are you ? "
'Course he is serious. For many types of games, especially RTS, MMO, and FPS - it is generally accepted that the mouse and keyboard are better. For other types of games, like fighting, racing, and sports games, most people say consoles are better. (Personally I say PC are great for them too, but I'm in the minority, probably cause I just love the PC so much). I find that RPGs tend to work equally well on both platforms - but they are designed differently.
