I have had Windows 8 installed on my laptop for a while now and I haven't really downloaded any apps recently. Is there any apps, including games, that you guys recommend? I am sure there are some good ones out there.

Windows 8 App Recommendations?
Wordament is ok, I downloaded a bunch of stuff the first week I had win8,I try to stay out of Metro now, it's really a terrible interface if you don't have touch controls.
I'd like to try the Halo: Spartan Assault game, but I never got around to it, it looks decent though.
Is there any apps
Nope!
Netflix? Cuz that's what I did as soon as I got my laptop with Win 8. I also try to stay out of Metro though.
@godlyone: Cool, thanks for letting me know about MetroTube. I was looking for a youtube app. I was also looking for a Facebook app but it doesn't look like there is an official one for that either...
@bigjeffrey: Those all look awesome haha! Especially that cowboy one!
@blu3v3nom07: Oh trust me, I have that gem of an app! No lie, it was probably one of the first apps I got.
Desktop.
It comes preinstalled.
Not exactly the most exciting of apps, but Package Tracker is decent.
Uninstall.
where is that app i can't find it in the store?
@blu3v3nom07: I had no idea there was a giant bomb app!
XE Currency, Fresh Paint, Skulls of the Shogun, ABC Player, MetroTube, Xbox Music, Bank Of America, SkyDrive, ebay, comixology, kindle, Skype, Flixster, howstuffworks

Glad to see there's not constant W8 bashing here. Ugh. Anyway. I have so many app recommendations but I will have to post them a bit later.
Windows 8 is fine, but the lack of apps is depressing. If you do have recommendations, post them away. I'm anticipating lot of them will probably be mediocre, but look forward to be proven wrong on that assumption.
Is there even a facebook app yet? If there is, it's probably designed by Microsoft and not Facebook (even though Microsoft is one of the major shareholders of Facebook, as I understand it), and it'll probably be at least as crappy as the Windows Phone facebook app (also developed by Microsoft).
Not that I use facebook a lot, I just think that it's pretty telling when an app store doesn't even have a fully-functioning facebook app. I know it has a twitter app now, but I don't think that was great either.
As far as official Microsoft apps:
- Weather
- News
- Bing
- Skype
- Skydrive
- Bing Translator
- Calendar
- OneNote
are all good. Stay away from Video, Messaging, People, and especially Music. BUT. They're making huge updates in 8.1 which is available on Thursday and the new versions of these apps look really fucking good. I'm mostly just excited that easy playlist options and SD options are present in music, now I can finally switch to it being my main music player.
Others:
- Stumbleupon
- File Browser
- MetroTube
- Network Speed Test
- RBC Canada (For RBC customers only obviously - surprisingly excellent app)
- Snes8x
- VBA8 (excellent GBA emulator)
- VGBC8 (excellent gameboy emulator)
- Multitude of free Xbox games (Endless Skater, The Gunstringer, Jetpack Joyride, Six Guns, Gravity Guy, Wordament, Monsters Love Candy, Samurai vs Zombie Defense, iStunt 2, Monster Island, Glacier Blast)
- Reaper
- Foursquare
- Overdrive
- Comix
- Manga Z
- Songza
- ModTuner (A guitar tuner that works really well)
- Netflix
- Nokia Music
- Recording Studio
- Wordbook
- Fresh Paint
- Amazon
- eBay
- Wikipedia
- howstuffworks
- Cocktail Flow
- Epicurious
- Skyscanner (a really neat flight search engine, I found a super cheap 450 dollar flight to Germany from Canada from this thing!)
- 8tracks
- 500px
- Phototastic
- Audible
- Currency Converter +
Some of these things won't really apply for everyone, like the Currency Converter, but since I have to convert a lot of my money I found it a useful and well made app. I guess you'll just kind of know if these apps will suit you or not by their name.
EDIT: And these are all just free apps. I haven't delved into any paid apps but there are a lot that might be good.
@snail: As far as Facebook goes, there is a really good one called SocialNV that I have used before. I just find that Facebook has so much going on that it isn't complemented well with touch on any format, be it phone or whatever, and the desktop experience is the best way to view it. And as for Twitter, the app is completely serviceable. The only thing it doesn't have is multiple accounts, but then again that won't affect a lot of people who only have one account, like myself.
@xyzygy: Those are some good recommendations there!
And yeah, I am still waiting for an official, or at least bearable, Facebook app. There are facebook apps in the store but they all suck. I've tried pretty much all of them.
you should update to 8.1
- network Speed TEst (by MS) pretty great app.
- Official Facebook App is Out with 8.1
Really dig the snapping which i could not stand pre update, i can now control the size of the app which is all i need. Yeah, update. Also Store Redesign
@bigjeffrey: I was just about to post on that. Looks pretty nifty.
Xbox Music is still really good too.
@xyzygy: Skype app sucks, i don't know if they changed that but back when i tried it, if you opened any other software, metro or not, the sound would go mute.
@blu3v3nom07: oh yeah i saw that one. A bit crazy to have a countdown but hey what the heck downloaded
@xyzygy: Skype app sucks, i don't know if they changed that but back when i tried it, if you opened any other software, metro or not, the sound would go mute.
They definitely changed that. MS overhauled a lot, if not all of their first party apps yesterday when they released 8.1. I'm actually using Xbox Music as my main media player now, it's pretty good. Only gripe about it is that you can't manually put album art on but it is accurate for every one of my 500+ albums except for one.
