Overview
Pizza, as we know it, originated in the Naples province of Italy between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In 1889, Queen Margherita d'Savoy visited Naples and was served a pizza made wiith tomato, buffalo mozzarella, and basil leaves. These three ingredients resembled the colors of the Italian flag (red, white, and green). Thus was born the classic Margherita pizza, the most popular pizza today. The word pizza derives from the Italian word pizzare, meaning "to pluck." This is in reference to the fashion in which the pizza pies are "plucked" from the hot ovens.
Different Types of Pizza
There are many types of pizzas. So many in fact that this page will show some of the more popular ones:
Cheesy Cheese
mmm... cheese. The cheese pizza is a very simple pizza but a popular one nevertheless. It consists of bread, tomato sauce and of course cheese. The cheese is usually mozzarella, however fancier places will have cheese pizza with different kinds of cheese on it. It's what some would call, a safe pizza since it has basically no toppings so unless you don't like cheese you should like cheese pizza
Pepperoni Pizza

Zesty Pepperoni Zesty Pepperoni
Pepperoni pizza is another classic pizza that is similar to the cheese pizza except for one thing: Pepperoni. This adds a lot more flavor to the pizza and makes it a lot less bland than the cheese pizza. It has a nice spicy taste to it and makes this pizza awesome.
Hawaiian Pizza
Pineapple anyone?Hawaiian Pizza is another step up and can have variable ingredients depending on where it is served. I like to say that a Hawaiian pizza is essentially made out of bread, tomato sauce, cheese, ham (or other meat), and of course pineapple. This pizza should bring a freshness to the consumer since the pineapple is incredibly flavorful. The ham is also another ingredient that gives the pizza some meat to it making it all the more filling.
Combo

I wonder if that even tastes like Pizza? Combo pizza is an interesting pizza since it pretty much has everything known to man on it. It has of course bread, tomato sauce, cheese, meat(s), olives, peppers, onions, etc. This is a pizza that was probably concocted when some guy said "Hmm... I wonder what would happen if I made a pizza that had so many ingredients people wouldn't know what they are eating. Although many people enjoy combo pizza and the great thing about it is that you can have it the way you want it. (Wow that sounds like Burger King) Anyway it's super customizable so you don't have to have bell peppers, olives, or zebra testicles on your combo pizza if you want to call it a combo pizza
Veggie
Lacking of meat?Veggie pizza is just what it sounds like. It has lots of vegetables (i.e. onion, red/green bell pepper, olives, diced tomatoes, and mushrooms). The point of this pizza's existence is basically for people looking for a healthier pizza. Sometimes veggie pizzas will even leave pizza roots, replacing the traditional cheese and tomato sauce for healthier alternatives. Typically, the Greek pizza tends to be more veggie than other varieties.
