PvZ is a massive franchise, so it makes sense that PopCap and EA would want to expand it, and to be honest, I can actually see it adapting to a class-based shooter fairly well.

@turboman: A lot of the info is based on PopCap job listings and rumors that leaked out about a year ago.

Here's a NeoGAF thread from 2012 about them working on a Frostbite 2 engine game (which they now seem to have upgraded to Freostbite 3). It seems like its a real thing but I am unsure how good Popcap would be at making a shooter.
