Sooooo. Whats the over-under that if rising sells well and gets decent scores amongst the gaming press that Konami will buy platinum the fuck out and roll them into a subsidiary or even into a metal gear studio or EVEN actually into Kojima Productions itself?
Now i'm not 100% on the workings of the Japanese games industry and how the metal gear ip is handled by konami/kojima, so I have a few questions:
Is the Metal Gear IP KojiPro's and specifically kojima himself's IP where they have the final say and full control in regards to how its used? Or does it belong to konami who could pull (if they wanted to) an Activison type move and put as much shit out as they wanted with the metal gear name on it?
Does konami even have the assets to buy platinum if they wanted or would a merger make more sense?
Would platinum and specifically Shinji Mikami, Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya allow such a deal after their experience working under big publishers like Capcom?
Is this just Platinum taking advantage of a lucky break where they can use an internationally best selling IP to fund Bayonetta 2 (or other game they have in mind)?
There's so many interesting angles to this entire thing, from the worrying fact that the one metal gear Kojima tries to not get involved in cant even get past the damn drawing-board to the fact that platinum despite making fantastic games aren't getting the sales numbers they expect and arguably deserve.
