Okami 2 by Platinum would be a reality if only Capcom..

Wanted it and if they had the cash to fund it. I suppose they're having money problems? I'm not entirely up to date on that situation. It also doesn't help that Okami sold so poorly that Clover had to shut down.

After Clover's closure, many of its talented folks moved over to Platinum.

I would love it if Platinum Games made another grande and sweeping Zelda-ish adventure, whether it's a sequel to Okami or not. With my curiosity itching, I asked Kamiya (director of Okami, Bayonetta, & more) a question on twitter that he's likely been asked a bunch of times.

    This little exchange occurred:

*The tweet above links to a previous question where Kamiya indicates that he'd rather work on a sequel to Bayonetta instead of another game in the same genre. My response:

So Kamiya and Platinum seem game to do another one if only Capcom had the money and will to fund it. This seems like an impossible uphill battle.

    But so did...

I know I wouldn't try organizing something like that. For multiple reasons, but mainly because I don't want to end up disappointed.

TL;DR The point of this thread is more to gauge interest. Would you want an Okami 2? What did you think of the first one? What would it take short of a miracle to get Capcom to give Platinum the rights to another Okami?

The only thing I can come up with, since Capcom seems to be having a hard time, is console exclusivity. That's basically what Platinum is living on right now (Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Scalebound). Okami started off as a PS2 exclusive. It is the crowning yet hidden gem of that platform. Capcom would need to give Platinum the rights and Sony would need to fund the game (since they looove their fans so much, right?). That's how I can see this happening, if it happens at all.

I fucking LOVE Okami, but that game is complete. There's no need for a sequel. Okamiden is more of the same on a system that can't really handle that type of game. I'd rather Platinum do their own thing.

I know. As I said in the OP, I want a new game by Platinum that's Okami / Zelda like. The story in the first one was indeed complete so I don't feel a need for a new one. But I think Kamiya has another story in that world in mind. I've seen from his other tweets that he wants to make a sequel rather than another open world action / adventure game. I'm jonesing for another game of that style and scope.

I just don't think Capcom would ever go for another game in that world. They couldn't commit to a full sequel, so they shit out Okamiden without anyone noticing, post the release of a new handheld. (it's ok, but reuses a lot of environments etc from the original.) You never hear anyone talking about that game so I assume it did poorly just like Okami did on the PS2.

I'd love to think that the HD re-release was to gauge interest in a sequel, but I assume they put it out cos that's just what Capcom do... re-release after re-release. Yet again... it felt like it popped out of nowhere and nobody really cared despite it being a superior version of an already incredible game. Okami feels like a game that appeals to a bunch of really, really passionate people, but has almost zero mass market appeal whatsoever.

Now that Platinum is kind of in the Nintendo fold, Im kinda thinking they should just make a proper Zelda game see how that goes. Hyrule Warriors showed me Nintendo kind of doesn't care what it attaches Zelda to at this point, why not try and experiment that could really pay off

Okami is the best zelda game I've ever played. I fucking love that game. In my top 10 of all time. Bought it on release for ps2, and bought the HD release on ps3 earlier this year. Played through it and it's still absolutely stellar. The visuals, the atmosphere, the quirk, the charm, the sense of adventure! And man oh man, that soundtrack. Just brilliant.

So yeah, I'd rather like another Okami game. Also, that's a great idea about platinum having a go at making Zelda.
