i have a gaming capable PC, and a Xbox 360. but im getting a PS3 for my birthday next week. my question is, if there is one game in particular that i should play first? i bought MGS4 and Killzone 2. any other suggestions?

I might aswell be 'THAT' guy and say Uncharted 1 and 2 because it'll blow your mind.

I would get Uncharted 1 and 2. Metal Gear would be my next pick.

so not Killzone 2? because im not the biggest fan of Modern Warfare 2 and its slightly twtchy gameplay, imo

Having just gotten a PS3 at the new year I would say Uncharted 2. You can get 1 if you like, but it is not a necessary play before 2 and it has a number of gameplay shortcomings that can make it a... pain.
 
U2 (hey, that would make a great band name!) is far and away the best exclusive on the system, but LittleBigPlanet (despite the flakiness of the running/jumping controls [which you would think would be a deal breaker in a platforming game]) is a great deal for the money because of all the content the community has created for it.

Depends on what games u like, but if you've already gotten MGS4, go with that (just be warned that it's waaaay heavy on the cutscenes). Then pick up Uncharted 2 when you're ready for something new.

i would say get uncharted 1, the price is great. i bought it at $22. 
 
maybe grand tirsmo  5 when it comes out.

Little Big Planet.

Killzone 2 was my favorite game of the year and has a great single player campaign and an amazing multiplayer feature.

Infamous

Everything everyone's said here so far plus get crackin' on a few PSN downloadable games.  I suggest Wipeout HD and Everyday Shooter.  Super Stardust HD is good, too but for twin-stick action, I prefer Everyday Shooter.  It's just a matter of personal taste.

Like PenguinDust said, there's a lot of cheap stuff on the PSN store. For example, you can't go wrong with any of the pixeljunk games (besides racer).

i have a ps3 that i just got, and the first game that i got that I have enjoyed quite a bit is Valkyria Chronicles... Its kind of a mash up of rts and some first person stuff, but i've been really into that, SFIV, and my roommates copy of FFIX for the PS1.  Here is the quicklook of Valkyria Chronicles, and it's pretty old so you can find it for 20 new, or less if you look around...

  GaLaXypwn3r  - i was in teh same boat as you a few months ago. i bought- LBP, MGS4, and uncharted2. i cant get into lbp, same for mgs4. i really liked uncharted 2, however i didnt find it to be this life altering experience everyone is touting. the story is cool, however nothing that hasnt already been done. the character acting/voice actors and really good though. the visuals and equally impressive. controls are great, and the camera work in certain spots is incredible. 
 
some other games you might like to try, wipeout hd plus expansion pack. any of the pixeljunk games except racer. 

Play Uncharted 1 first, because if you play a lot of other games and come back to uncharted you will feel it to be a very inferior and outdated game, than if you played it first.

I just bought a PS3 as well (my first current-gen console, apart from a pretty cockrocking PC). I'm pretty much into more laidback sorts of games/ games that don't have a high level of difficulty. Could anyone recommend a game or two for this carebear? Gracias if anyone does!

I am sure all the obvious ones will get a run so you should definately check out Folklore if you get a chance. Great game.

Thanks, dudes! I'm probably about to purchase Uncharted 1 and Folklore... checking out PSN for good laidback games that aren;t sucky.... it's so fun to feel like a noob again.

experience MGS4 first like...hour. you will be stunned. the commercials, the intro that flows right into gameplay ugh.... amazing.

Surprised how few people mention Motor Storm Pacific Rift, easily one of the best racing games ever made and best exclusives on ps3.
Aside from that I'd say go with peoples usual picks, Uncharted 1 and 2, Ratchet and Clank ToD and CiT, MGS4 and of course God of War 3 next month.
