If you can still find a MGS4 bundle, get one of those. That package is a fantastic deal.
Otherwise, I'd just wait until the holidays and see what bundles and price cuts are announced then.
But I'm guessing you'll get impatient and just rush out and buy a 40GB this weekend.

Is now the right time to buy a PS3?
rumor still has it that sony will have an update available that will allow 40gb skus and the new 80s to emulate PS2 software
"rumor still has it that sony will have an update available that will allow 40gb skus and the new 80s to emulate PS2 softwareThat would only leave the lack of memory card readers, which are actually quite useful.
"
"Me, I'm suffering to choose between a 360 and a PS3.. D:Suffer no more. PS3 shall save you.
"
I think you should wait because they are going to phase out the 40 gig and change the price of the 80 to the price of the current 40. Or maybe that was only for Europe, i cant remember. Anyway i still think u shood deffinatly get a ps3!
"yes now is the perfect time to buy them before you lose the option of ps2 backward compatibilityPS2 compatible systems are already hard to find nowadays.
"
If I didn't have a PS3 right now, MGS4 would be enticing enough for me to pay about $500 to be able to play it (and of course Blu-rays, upscaled DVDs, other games, PSP remote play [Play PS1 games from your PS3 streamed to your PSP], not to mention the wireless, HDMI port, no need for batteries in your controller, upgradable hard drive). It's a great machine with a long future ahead of it and, of course, MGS4 so buy it.
"This very second i kinda regret getting a ps3... The main reasons were MGS4 and FF13 and that play tv thing...
look at what happened with FF13, also it's rumored that Tekken 6 will be on both systems too.
If killzone and resistance flop, the system will take a big step back.
I do love the bluray player and tekken 5 is great fun when you have a heap of friends over.
"
Lol, FF13 is still on PS3 as lead platform, and the 360 port will NOT be up to par with the PS3 version thats for sure, Tekken 6 will not be on 360 lmao, KZ2 and R2 aren't a flop, I bet you money on that one.
But I think your missing tons of advantages on the PS3.LiquidPrince said:

It's no rumor, it will eventually; Sony has already said so.

Or You Could Take The Smart Option And Buy A 360 Right Now

Why would someone buy a 360 right now over the PS3? Just tell me that truthfully and I will ignore the fact that you are a 360 fanboy in a PS3 thread lol.
The PS3 is overall a better system than the 360, but unless there are some serious exclusive titles that you want to play on the PS3 (MGS 4) I would stick with the 360 for the time being. Also, the 80 gb for $400 is a really good deal. I would *not* factor in backwards compatibility into your purchase on the current MGS 4 80 gb system because it's really not that great. Keep your PS2 connected instead.
yes now is the time. dont forget mgs4, blu-ray player, internet, home, littlebigplanet, gran turism 5, god of war 3, etc etc etc etc etc. so many great exclusives coming out, 360 fanboys are really starting to eat their words, or sound completely brain dead when they say ps3 has no games. its has the mot impressive exclusive game lineup be far
