It's on top of a table, so the fans are getting plenty of circulation either way.

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
Is the PS3 better standing up or on it's side?
Either way is the same really, I would assume vertically it can breathe better, but only every so slightly, nothing that would make a big difference.
So either way, it all comes down to personal preference in your case.
I have mine on its side, and it gets pretty hot after long play sessions, but I don't know if having it vertically would make any type of difference.
keeping a console vertical= fail since disc could possibly shake around or console could fall and break
I keep it on it's side......because I'm extremely paranoid that something is going to happen if I have it vertically....like a fly landing on it and knocking it over....or the ceiling fan going so fast that it is literally blown over....you know the most likely stuff. I don't know if there is a difference performance wise though.
It's built for either way. I keep mine horizontal cuz it's on a narrow stand and if it toppled over I'd be pissed.
I don't think it makes much of a difference. Just as long as you give it plenty of room so that air can circulate around it (meaning not in a closed up cabinet/shelf). Personally I keep mine horizontal. I have pets so I won't risk having it vertical because they will knock it down.
"I just suspend mine in mid-air from the ceiling."I like this--a swing for the PS3. Anyone want to mass produce this & give me one?
"keeping a console vertical= fail since disc could possibly shake around or console could fall and break"That only happens on 360. I have moved my PS3 around a lot while the disc is running before, nothing happened.
"HoNgKoNgPh0oEy said:yea that kinda thing only happens with the 360 becasue they're still using that cheap pc tray."keeping a console vertical= fail since disc could possibly shake around or console could fall and break"That only happens on 360. Horizontal, according to some thermal imaging shots.

Truth is, if it was designed to sit horizontally and vertically, chances are it will be just fine either way.
Mine's horizontal. Seems to collect some heat on the bottom after long sessions. I don't keep mine on its side because I know it'll get knocked over...somehow.
For a while I had mine on its side. Then I moved my ps3 upstairs o its not standing up.
Theres no difference.
"mines upside down. its the best that way trust me"O_o ...
So is that why you have gotten 6 replacement systems?
"mines upside down. its the best that way trust me"hmm....I'll have to try that sometime.
"shadows_kill said:I just tried it. Did you know upside down it can play 360 games as well as HDDVD's?"mines upside down. its the best that way trust me"hmm....I'll have to try that sometime."
Side/horizontal for me.
1. Safer and prevents from falling accidentally
2. Idiots won't screw up putting the disk in
3. I read somewhere that horizontal collects less heat
