Looks like PS3 owners looking to get in on Netflix's instant streaming will be ready to go as soon as this week. This showed up in my inbox this morning:

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

More like ask Netflix (which has already been done)." @Th3dz said:
" wait,... what? streaming on disc... this is stupid... why not software update? "Ask Sony. "
" @Th3dz said:nooo. you have to have the disc in when you want to use it dude. install wont matter even if it has it (which i am sure it does)" wait,... what? streaming on disc... this is stupid... why not software update? "Dude, it's Sony and it's PS3, you KNOW there'll be a mandatory install anyway. "

My disk is in the mail. I should have it tomorrow. Curious as to how the interface will be.
It's definitely not as convenient as it is on my Xbox since i need a disk, but i'll give it a whirl.
Heck, i hope i can have both my Xbox and PS3 as "activated devices"
(yes, this is an xpost)
Wow, that was faster than I thought! I have to admit, I'm really excited about this. My disk should come tomorrow!
" wait,... what? streaming on disc... this is stupid... why not software update? Edit: I'm sure they have their reasons, they always do! "Chill out. This is Netflix just jumping the gun and giving people the necessary software before Sony upgrades the firmware. It will happen for sure, just wait a week or so :)

It's to get around Netflix's console exclusivity agreement with Microsoft. It is technically a BD-Live feature that uses the BRD player, rather than a console software install.
"The disc is just an early implementation, possibly a way to get passed the 360 exclusivity deal. There will be a Netflix app that integrates into the XMB sometime next year.
Why the H does it have to be on a disc?! There's not a downloadable....um...anything that can make it work? I'll stick with my 360 Netflix, thanks. "
I don't see why popping in a disc is a big deal to some people. I put in a Blu-Ray disc for each movie i want to watch. So putting in one disc for thousands of movies is perfectly fine. People are just making an issue out of it just to try and downplay the fact that the PS3 is getting Netflix streaming now also.
" Coolness. I've been using the Xbox Live Netflix. I am eager to see what the differences might be. "I think Netflix said they were exactly the same, so the only differences are Gold Membership charges and using a disk instead of an installed thing. But then again, people said Ghostbusters was exactly the same on all platforms, and we all know how that went down.
" I wonder if the BD Live implementation will work on all BD Live compatible players? This would be a good reason to do it disc-based for the first release. "Depends on the back-end stuff they're using. If they use the same codecs as the rest of the BD players, then there's no reason it shouldn't!
