I've been admiring the PS3 from afar but I'm a bit disgusted that they
just dumped the entire PS2 lineup. Although I'm hearing conflicting
reports. Does it work with PS2 games or does it not?

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
PS3 slim doesn't have PS2 backwards compatibility?
Well he'll need a good computer too.dude... get pcsx2 then get the dualshock 3 drivers. problem solved.
But those things break over time & then you'll beI don't really care if the PS4 will play PS3 games, cause I will still have my PS3, and I still have a PS2
stuck with a bunch of unplayable games.
However this PCSX2 sounds promising for keeping
the PS2 disks alive & maybe PS3 disks. Provided the
emulator works well. Man was checking the original
Xbox & nobody bothered to emulate that.
I simply can't imagine why Sony & Mr. Softy will put
out consoles that won't continue to play their old games.
Doesn't make sense. The whole thing is Intel architecture
& PC-type video cards. Boggles my mind.
Even most fat PS3s don't have PS2 compat. They pulled that really early. Only 2006-2007 models have it as far as I know.

Boggles my mind.Money is the quick answer. Originally Sony had extra hardware in the PS3 (original Phat) to play PS2 games. This was due to the fact that later PS2 generation games were doing things the consoles were not designed to do, like running regular CPU processes on the GPU. After the fully backwards compatible PS3 there was a software emulation version PS3 which saved the cost of the extra hardware but not everything worked. Sony was tired to paying to you to buy a PS3 so they killed it all together. MS had the same issue which is why some games need patches to run on the 360 and some won't work all together.

fact some Xbox games were moved to digital online versions that you
can pay for & download. If Microsoft did this over the long term, basically
moved all old Xbox games to digital form, then in theory, every original
Xbox game that is currently backwards-compatible supported could still
be acquired for all future Xbox consoles (requires paying extra for those digital
copies though).
It looks like going back & getting a refurbished PS3 60G would be the way
to go if I were to get one & upgrade the internal hdd to something sick. Like
a hybrid 500G momentus. It'd be interesting to use a stylish Mac wireless
keyboard & magic track pad on the PS3 from the couch as well (though the
track pad probably won't work).
I wish Sony would announce when the PS4 is coming out. I'd hate to buy
a PS3 now & find out the PS4 is going to be released early next year.
Emulation is a bit glitchy too. I ended up buying a PS2 to play Persona 4 because I kept getting glitchy floor textures in certain areas and the music quality was a bit off.@Terry_Bogard said:

maybe. depends on if you try and uprez it.
I am being critical cuse I had a launch model and used it maybe once or twice.
...it loaded so much faster though :(

with the PS4 they'll bring back backwards compatibility.
Except that I'm definitely not double-spaced!Oh god, it's you who
talks in the most frustrating way ever
and there's really no need to

a little tip there to help the legibility

@Ygg said:Oh noo it can run great but it is kinda game dependant but for the most part it'll work pretty well.@PufferFiz said:So the PS2/PC emulation isn't too good? That's a shame. I recently tried emulation again, I had my emulator rendering things at 1920x1080 playing Persona 3 and it works great. No glitches at all - sound or visual.
They are really CPU hungry though. I used to run a 3Ghz Core 2 Duo and I suspect that was the reason games were slowing down from time to time, now I'm on a fast quad core everything runs super speedy.
Sucks that it's gone but in 2011 I'm not really dying to play PS2 games. The few that I would be interested in are getting HD remakes so I'm good. I'm surprised they aren't doing more HD remakes or even something similar to the Xbox Originals program though.

I'm surprised they aren't doing more HD remakes or even something similar to the Xbox Originals program though.True enough. There isn't a lot except for those die-hard Playstation fans who
may have stacks of games going back to the PS1 that might want to look at
them from time to time. I got a couple of Original Xbox games that I can't
play in my 360: The Warriors & Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. I would have
liked to finish the Fallout game, not a great game but I enjoyed it, & replay
The Warriors because it was fun, but I'd only be able to do that had I went
the PS2 route beforehand. Neither of these games arrived on a PC either.
But you could buy them for the PS2 & use the PS2-PC emulator or your
older PS3 to play them at any time. It just irks me that Consoles can't
naturally play old Console games, when you can go back to the PC &
play any old game you want from the past 20+ years plus all the new
games sans console exclusives.
