PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
So the new 80gb Wil....
Not sure how much truth that holds. But yes, it seems that it's exactly like the 40gb
nnnnnnnooooooooooo
why the fuck they took out the MS SLOTS!!!!!??
:( wasnt a good move at all
any news on another model 60 gbs like? in the near future`?
"any news on another model 60 gbs like? in the near future`?"No. Since Sony is taking out the backwards compatibility of future 80GBs models and discontinued 60GBs, it's pretty clear that they no longer want to support backwards compatibility anymore in future units.
Yeah, sadly! :(
The same as 40GB, but with an 80GB, for the same price of 399...
If you REALLY need memory card slots, you can always buy a really cheap memory port USB adapter. They do the job easy.
"8GB USB memory sticks are around $30 these days. You can find memory stick USB adaptors for about $10. So, you don't really need memory stick slots built in.I don't think downloadable BC is in the near future. Considering they're still cranking out PS2s and want to give people the incentive to buy more of them.
PS2 emulator software's probably going to be downloadable content in the near future, from what I've heard."

they said that they wanted the ps3 to be a mult media machine but taking out the MS slots is a BIG MISTAKE and only 2 usb slots THAts crap
so basically all the people whodidnt buy the 60 gb get half of the features
FUCK SONY I M PISSED

To be honest, it doesn't matter to me: I have a perfectly functional PS2 sitting right next to my PS3. :)
I'm not sure why you're so upset, OP. Two USB ports is more than enough to do everything you seem to want to do.
It is the 40 GB with a 80GB drive in it. I am sure Sony will come out with a deluxe model like the 60GB and the original 80GB
If you wondered too here is the offical word for the 80 gb:
Recently announced at E3, the 80GB PlayStation 3 finally has a release date in the UK, 29th August 2008, and will presumably be the same date across Europe. The new 80GB model will phase out the now older 40GB model while sharing the same features (or lack of) at the same price.
The PlayStation 3 80GB model does NOT feature:
* Backwards Compatibility with PS2 Games
* Memory Stick Card Readers
* SACD Playback
* Ethernet Cable
* 4 USB Ports, (The PS3 80GB model features 2)
It is also being bundled with a DualShock 3 rather than a SIXAXIS too, so if you were considering buying a PS3 then hold out just a little longer and grab yourself a great deal, and with the new platinum range which has just been released you'll be able to pick up some get PS3 titles for a decent price.

Now its not the time to buy a ps3 HARDWARE WISE :(
i want the memory stick card readers *cries*

"What did you need all those memory slots for if you don't mind me asking."Because i used to transfer movies, photos, music, and saves ;( i dont have a external harddrive ;(
i cant believe i sold my 60 gb :( i so regret it :(:(:(:(
"I wish Sony would bring the white PlayStation over here in The United States, we have too many black consoles."Racist!!!!!!!!

I honestly don't use my memory card reader thing... I find it useless. If I want to transfer something I just use a USB thumb drive, they're dirt cheap now-a-days.
I think it's unlikely they'll release another BC SKU. There's no real need for it given how cheap the PS2 is. And things like two extra USB slots and Memory Stick slots are pretty much useless, and would just function to increase the cost, which would be handed on to the buyer.
I expect they'll keep increasing the size of the hard drive because the price of 2.5" SATA drives keeps going down, but doubt it'll go back to having BC or these other "features" in the near future.

Pshaw. Wikipedia.
"I'm just going to point out. Extra $100 for Metal Gear Solid IV, memory slots, two extra USB ports and access to a huge catalog of great games. Kind of worth it."Agreed, but that sku is not even in Europe :(
Europe is the last 'Sony land* and we dont even get a good theatment ;(
"What!? No more fucking backwards compatibility!? Way to go, Sony."Yeah, only the 80GB did it, and the 60GB original did it even better.
But this can only mean they are getting closer to having software BC available.
"It's a 40 with an 80 HDD."actually i think its a 80 gig that doesn't play ps2 or ps1 games(im not sure for ps1 games tho)
Yeah, via software, PS2 however is not, and thats why PS1 BC is with every single machine. PS2 should come eventually via software though.
lol the title looked like it said "So the new 80 gb Wii"
i was wondering why no one else was flaming this for being a pointless joke topic until i realized wat it said
embarrassing
I hope the new 80Gb model comes with ps2 backward compatability. I'll still probably pick it up, even if it doesnt. Anyone know the release date for it for Australia?
