Ok guys I really need your help. Ever since I got my PS3 last year, its had the worst download speeds. Something that is 500MB might take and hour or two to download. I don't think its my connection because my 360 has fantastic download speeds and I know its not PS3s in general because I saw this story on MTV Multilayer that said otherwise. Any advice or settings that might need to be changed? I really want to use my PS3 more but this is just so annoying.

you'd think it wouldn't happen considering how powerful the PS3 really is but I'm no tech guru.

No problems with speed issues on a wired connection.

hmmm really its not worth it to setup proxy and then use ICS on your computer just to get lower ping times, and faster download speeds the problem is that sony needs to have more servers in centralized areas of america.

Actually, I tried it and it works flawlessly on mine. I used to have horrendous download speeds, and this significantly increased my download speed. I guess it just depends on the user's ISP.

If you know your system's IP address, you could just put your PS3 through DMZ.

I would do this but my computer isnt on all the time due to my parents turning it off. I am only 16, but thanks for the link. Looks like I'll just have to deal with crappy download speeds which I think is ridiculous. They need to get some more servers around the US.

Because you touch yourself at night.

I can't believe no one said that yet. In all seriousness though, my PS3 has good download speeds. It has to be something with your router or modem. If you can, test out a download on a computer and see what the speed is. Maybe the stuff your downloading on the PS3 is really big.

Hmmm I have noticed some pretty shocking slow speeds at times on PSN with the downloads. It seems really inconsistent sometimes its fine then others its really bad. I'm on a 20mb line so Xbox live has always been consistently extremely fast for me but PSN is really hit and miss.

Yeah the stuff I download is big but I've never had problems with a big download on my 360 or PC. God that sounds wrong.

Uh... because you are using a router and haven't googled what ports you need to forward for PSN. Either that or take the lazy/insecure route with DMZ.

My PS3 downloads fast, the only problem i can have with speed is when the Firmware updates come out. So i usually just downloads those off the net. But downloading things off PSN or regular game updates are as fast as they are on my 360 i think.

I forwarded the ports but i don't think its made a difference. I need to figure out what IP address I use when I forward the ports. This is confusing stuff. For me.

Yeah, my PS3 gets crappy speeds, if I want a demo or something, it has to be on for 2 hours or so.  On the 360 stuff is ready in no time.  What is also retarded about the PS3 is the fact that you also have to install, doesnt take as much time but using the hard drive during that also increases the time needed.  On the 360, demo downloaded, its ready to go.

Speeds on my PS3 for downloads are a little slower than my 360, but I really don't like doing anything on my 360 except playing the occasional game, so that benefit for the 360 is worthless to me.

Slightly faster download < actually wanting to USE the system to download stuff.
