Looks like an alright mix between new and old. If those new features actually work well, I'm on board.
I'm sure some of the tech you see on display will be part of the redesign, the 'light bar' for the next PSEye, the flat bit for the touch surface, microphone (or is that grill a speaker?), etc. But I think the shape looks unrefined, like what we are seeing there is an early working prototype.
Saw it on Gameinformer but that thing looks like a mini tank. If it's real, it's a prototype obviously. I'm excited for Feb 20!
Everyone who looks at this image is going to jail.
Looks pretty good size-wise and I can't really tell from the picture, but it seems heavier too. I'd like to see R2/L2. The current PS3 triggers have got to go, but I don't really like the 360 triggers either. Personally, I want to see less "trigger" and something simpler.
Looks like one those bootleg controllers I could buy for $5 at Big Lots that's loaded with 100 games.
I'm still waiting for the goddamn silver boomerangs I was promised eight years ago!
I totally just want to hold that controller to see how it feels. I can't tell if that would be the least comfortable or the most comfortable controller ever.
Also the leaked screen is clearly a prototype. There is no way that is the final design. Sony always puts a good amount of thought behind the design of their products to release something that looks as rough as that. I do like the idea of the move functionality on the controller itself.
That is most likely a prototype, but even so I'm wondering where our oh-so-familiar Start button could be, if it has one.

I think the start button is to the right of the touchpad, and the select button is to the left... if you squint you can make it out.
It will be good how, during intense gameplay sessions, it will be easy to accidentally hit start. It's a great design.

Oh god, I forgot how horrible that looked. Doesn't seem ergonomic at all. What were they thinking?

Cut the tops off of two bananas and duct tape em together, should be a good analogue.
It looks a helluva lot better than the current dualshock, and if it fixes the triggers that would be fantastic. Although, I still hate that the sticks are not asymmetrical, as I find it not very comfortable and overall not very good.
I like it. It looks bigger, which is all I really want out of the new Dualshock anyway, along with better triggers too. It looks like they didn't fuck up the d-pad either, so good.
The Ouya had a similar touch screen in the middle of it's controller too, if I remember correctly. I wonder why both of them would add that feature to controllers? Is it mainly for the internet browser or do they have ideas to implement it into games?
Looks fine though, but really prototypey.
@mistasparkle: Dualshock 4 touch screen is to Wii U controller as Sixaxis is to Wiimote. Basically they're ripping off Nintendo in a really half-assed way.
@pillclinton: But the touchscreen doesn't display anything on the Dualshock 4, does it? It would just act the way a touchpad on a laptop would, right?
@mistasparkle: Hard to tell. I wouldn't be surprised if it's context-sensitive or allows you to map some extra buttons.
@ghostiet: Well, I guess we'll see in 5 days! Didn't actually realize how close to the 20th we were until now.
I'm liking it, looks sturdy and comfortable in a way the current Dualshock isn't for me (as someone who as issues with his hands, I approve of the bigger size).
hmmm, If this is truly the new controller, I think I might like this new D-Pad better than the current Playstation D-pad. Looks like diagonals will be easier on it.
I'm hoping those sticks are refined before release, though... they look pretty uncomfortable.
@devildoll: i never liked the idea of a screen on the controller, i mean i have a giant ass screen infront of me, why would i want to look away from it and turn to this tiny little screen.
we haven't looked at the controller ever since we memorized it and now they want us to turn back and look at it again.
@vampire_chibi: Well if I'm not mistaken, they said that it was just a touch surface during the "playstation meeting".
@devildoll: yeah that was before the meeting i said that ;p
@vampire_chibi: granted.
Just thought I'd mention it in case you didn't watch the meeting.
