My only worry about aligning with Sony for this generation is the prospect that Microsoft can still dominate with big 3rd party titles such as Call of Duty, Battlefield and EA Sports games
PlayStation 4

PlayStation 4 is Sony's fourth home video game console, released on November 15, 2013 in North America, and November 29, 2013 in Europe. On November 10 2016, Sony released the Playstation 4 Pro, an updated version of the console targeting 4K gaming.
Will the PS4 be the "hotspot" for big 3rd party titles?
At first, its gonna matter what happens with Titanfall.
And then where is the timed DLC gonna go first with Rockstar.
Obviously, the whole timed exclusive angle will be played by both Sony and Microsoft, and is absolutely meaningless, unless you're completely demented by fandom for one or the other franchise.
Why would you give two flying fucks about timed exclusive DLC for any game, in a world that's so oversaturated with good games, you don't have the time to play half of them. And if you play any one thing with a passion, you got little time for anything else anyways. If that's the thing that's timed exclusive to another platform, it doesn't matter either - because such a game will always be enough game, regardless of if the DLC comes a month early or not.
It really doesn't matter, and if it does to you, that's on you. And remember, two can play at that game. In fact, 21 publishers/devs are doing exclusive content for PS4, including stuff for big hitters like Destiny. No doubt the Xbox camp has just as many of these kinds of deals lined up. Either way, we the consumers are bound to lose.
While there's a sizable Call of Duty player base on the PS3, a lot of the Sony's base comes from gamers who don't want 4 first person shooters out of every 5 games. They want games like Puppeteer, The Last Of Us, Ico, etc. Sony needs to continue investing in internal development as opposed to taking the route of paying for 3rd party timed exclusives and timed DLC. By investing internally, you build enough solid franchises that last that you don't need to churn out a Infamous or a Killzone every year.

Yupp, I prefer all those Sony first parties over timed-exclusive DLC. Unless that DLC is from Rockstar.
Nobody knows, that is the real answer. It could be that you can't even tell what is lead console for use as a development base for a few years. In in a few years who knows what will be going on...all Xbox Ones could catch fire on Dec 7th 2014, all PS4 might ship full of spider eggs...we don't know how the market will shake out.
