If you're unable to log into PSN throughout today, it's because Sony's taken the service down to apply some behind-the-scenes patches to ensure the rest of the restoration process goes smoothly. Sony's said the PlayStation Store and other features should return to most parts of the world by week's end. Japan isn't so lucky.

"Thank you once again for your patience as we work to return PSN to the highest level of service," said Sony Network Entertainment VP Eric Lempel on the PlayStation Blog.

Players already logged into PSN should be able to stay logged in during the downtime, though.

I can't really be mad at this, knowing that poor IT schlubs behind the scenes are probably doing every damn thing they can to get things back up.  Still, wow.  The hits keep on coming, plus who knows what'll happen between now and E3

I'm just looking forward to another playthrough of inFamous.  Sold my copy after beating it twice, two weeks after it came out.  Haven't decided on what other freebie I'm going to download when Sony finally gets their shit together, maybe Wipeout.  After the way they've dangled and yanked away the re-opening of the store, I think they should add a few more titles to their freebie list.  Especially since they only put inFamous on there to sell more copies of the sequel that's out next week.

As to Sony: Don't care, just fix it, already. I never gave them my CC anyway, as I learned my lesson with MS's abuses of that information.

It's too bad every game that needed an online pass inputted or downloaded wasn't made available until PSN Store comes back online a la Mortal Kombat.

WoW didn't go down for a month or leak personal details.  Not surprised people are concerned over it being down again. I don't care personally, only want the store back so I can claim my free games then I probably won't touch online play on PS3 for another year.

Quick someone buy the domain to (isithacked.com) That way whenever the service goes down, hopefully we can get a clear cut response. (kind of like the isitdownorjustme website.)

At least PSN is a free service. If we were paying for it and it was down then that would be something to complain about.

Hey guys we totally missed that deadline that we said was set in stone, but it's alright because we're really doing you a favor.

I wonder if PSN will be actually all the way up by there E3 press conference.

the annoying thing is if you try to link an account to a username, you get blocked from doing so, but if it were already set to the account, you have no problems.
