I love mine, yet everyone seems to be against it. Do you think the Vita is viable in the era of the iphone and Angry Birds?

PlayStation Vita is Sony's second handheld gaming device.
Why do people hate the Vita so much?
I'm not against it, I think it looks great and has some really great functionality and technology behind it. Which is nice and all, but what am I going to play on it? PSP games are fun and all, but I already have a PSP. Why would I buy a Vita when there's not much to play on it that I can't already play elsewhere? Gravity Rush isn't going to sell it to me.
I think everyone is against it kind of for the same reason that everyone was against the PSP. While the tech is really impressive and capable, it's trying to deliver a console experience on a handheld, which most people don't want. Put that on top of a silly, silly UI, and it just isn't tickling most people's fancies.
as ive said before. im playing the long game with the vita. theres not alot out for it right now but there will be. in the meantime ill play the psp games i missed out on and pick up the vita games that look good like metal gear and mvc3. in time it will be awesome!
I don't think people hate it, I think it's just that from the outside it's very easy to say it has nothing in the way of games, with nothing big on the horizon - this isn't necessarily wrong, the Vita doesn't really have any games that are going to scream "BUY ME" to most purchasers. Sony's "strategy" with the system is to blame as well.
It seems that most Vita owners are actually really happy with the system, though. It actually does have a good selection of software to choose from and is extremely versatile. It can offer console-style experiences while also providing games that are much more like traditional handheld games, then there is the PSP back-catalog and soon-to-be-added PSone functionality. People get far too blinded by the fact the system offers a console experience, it does that, but the system really has a lot more than that to offer. Right now I actually feel like I have a wealth of stuff to play on my Vita.
@The_Nubster: see,i want a console expieremce on a handheld.i love playing MGS2 on the john,or mvc3 on a long car ride.
Don't know anyone who "hates" it.
I'm enjoying the games a lot. MK is awesome when sitting on a bus and then taking down people online.

What were your expectations when you were buying it? Just curous.
I don't hate it, but Sony don't seem to want to support it.
Watered down PS3 ports aren't much of a reason to get one.

too big? just wear it around your neck like everyone else did with the PSP.
totally looks cool and not douchey at all.
on topic:
worse a system is the more people have to go online saying they like it.
I "hate" it because it's the only platform on which you can get Persona 4 Golden. I really want to play that game!
I don't really hate it for that, but I am still a little sad I can't play Persona 4 Golden. Wouldn't go so far to pick up a VIta for it as much as I'd love to play that game.

Don't use handhelds.
Same. I don't have a use for games when I'm not at home. Though I can see the appeal if one is a frequent plane/bus/train traveler.
Who hates the Vita? It's a very nice handheld, well made and slick. Everyone I know that bought one likes theirs, including me.
I think people are just lamenting the slow software trickle, which was expected, and Sony's apparent less than enthusiastic public support of the handheld. Even with the supposed doom and gloom there's 4-5 games I've really enjoyed on the thing so far (Rayman, Gravity Rush, Mutant Blobs, Lumines, Super Stardust), which is honestly more than I can say for my 3DS at this point. Very much looking forward to DJMAX Technika Tune, Persona 4 Golden, Sound Shapes and Assassin's Creed later this year.
If people are legit offended by the Vita and want to see it burn, they either haven't spend a lot of quality time with one or are just taking the armchair analyst thing a bit too far.
I like my Vita a lot. Tons of potential. What I hate is the UI (compared to the PSP's XMB UI) and the rate at which games are trickling in.
If LittleBigPlanet would hurry up and get here all will be forgiven.
I think the Vita is a very interesting thing that has next to nothing to play on it. At least with my 3DS I have a handful of games that I can play on it, or I have games I'm excited to get soon. For Vita I just want Lumines and.... Lumines?
I'm not against it, it's just so sad how Sonly literally learned nothing from the failures with the PSP. They are making the same mistakes over again.
I don't hate the Vita and still enjoy using it, but if i had to nag on it i'm using the Vita almost exclusively for psp games and eventually ps1 games and not really using the system for the supposedly great things it can do since there are aren't many great titles for it.
And adding Vita games also to the ps3 just makes the Vita seem that less appealing to use instead of the ps3 counterparts even if it does come with a free copy and has cross play i play my Vita in my house so using the Ps3 for what could possibly be a better experience is a none issue.
That's strange, I've bought a bunch of Vita games so far. Then again, I live in the real world where there are actually games out for it :PI'm guessing the reason is because it's supposed to play games, of which there are none.
I think people fuel their dissapointment into hatred. It sounds so cool, but in reality the games aren't there yet and the price is way to high. If it had been the same device released at $199 and had accessible development tools that could be used to make smaller (and cheaper) games like the iOS store along with the huge blockbuster titles along with the beautiful aesthetics of the device, both developers and consumers would buy into it. (IN MY OPINION)
@Humanity: I didnt buy it I played it at E3 at a demo stand. I have held one tons of times.
All the games play like ps3 games I have a ps3 I have an xbox they do not use the back touch pannel for anything cool for some strange reason some games make you use the touch screen for menus even if it is stupid and could be done with the dpad. ya liek i want to finger print my screen just to push stuff lie single player or multiplayer game and stuff.
Wipeout on vita is the only reason I want one and it is just like ps3 game.
OH and it is to wide and big to fit in my pocket the 3ds is the max limit now a days i will put up with in size of what I will carry in my pocket. the only reason i see for it being wide is the screen because the thing feel empty and light like there is tons of empty space in it. and the sticks poke out to far.
and I have a psp already and I did not get on that until they shrank it down and that was bout when they got games for it like daxter oh and that played just like a ps2 game but at least it was a new game.
So when it gets games that are for vita only that are not just the same old boring ps3 games another fucking uncharted and that asassins creed again really that how much of that crap do we need in the last 5 years.... then I might get one.
OH and phantasy star online 2 might make me get one that game is bad ass I am playing it now but that is just so i can play online anywhere at anytime but then again i can do that with my mx11 laptop but the vita is smaller.
its the same reason I dont care about the wii u they have not done anything with this cool new features on any game that makes me want one the back touch screen pannel and front touch screen has tons of option for doing stuff and they are still using those fucking analog sticks.
PSP 3000 size is the size the vita should be since it does not fold up.

Sony should get their top tier developers to make PSV games.
I'm sure they've suggested looking doing Vita games to them, but Sony doesn't like forcing its developers to do things they're not interested in. That said, Sony Bend is Vita only and hardly a sub-par dev, and Sony Cambridge, who's making Killzone Vita, has its share of fans form Primal and Medievil.

Well that explains it. I don't live in the real world, and here that system literally launch with 0 games. It's not even that the games for it are bad, there just aren't any...really odd strategy if you ask me.
I think it has a lot to do with the black and white communication style of gamers. It's either great or shit, especially if its just outside of their interest. Plus it hasn't been around long enough to get a lot of games so people hold that against it.
it's a vicious cycle. nobody buys it because there's nothing to play, but then there's ESPECIALLY nothing to play after nobody buys it.
As with many others here, I've nothing against the system itself, only the lack of games at present for it.
How does that even make SENSE? How do you invent and manufacture a gaming device, then RELEASE IT as retail, and not have games for it?I'm guessing the reason is because it's supposed to play games, of which there are none.
Fucking handhelds boggle my mind.
@stinky: It's seriously way too big for me to consider bringing it along a short trip, I have to make a conscious effort "do I really want to lug this thing around or wait to play MK when I get home?" and usually it's me waiting. But I am a rare case, three of my all time favorite franchises are Mortal kombat, lumines and wipeout, so I am set, not many other vita owners are.
@BlackLagoon: Perhaps Sony should look to acquire more studios which focus solely on PSV, or perhaps the bigger problem the PSV has is Sony themselves, what I mean is that they don't seem to care about it, like the Move, it feels like they've forgotten about it, there was allot of hype before the release, now that they've released it, it's all pretty quiet like the Move. Personally I think they should make games unique for the PSV, like Nintendo do for the 3DS, looking at the upcoming releases of the PSV most of it seems to be ports or variants of what's already on PS3, which is al right but what's the point of getting a lesser version of a game.
