I've been thinking lately about how the PS1 was praised for it's dualshock controller with TWO (count em) TWO analog sticks. I own like 30 ps1 games but none of them i can think of even use the right analog stick at ALL. i understand that some people had the original controller without analog sticks so they couldnt really make games that they couldnt play, but is there any games in particular that actually utilize the dualshock (specifially the right stick) in a way that actually benefits the game?

Sony's first video game console established the PlayStation brand. It dominated the 32/64-bit era and was the best-selling home console up until the PlayStation 2.
PS1 games that actually use the dualshock well?
EDIT: lemme be a little more specific, i mean the right stick. some games kinda benefit from the left stick and full 360 degree movement but the right stick felt like it was never used for anything.
" Metal Gear? "how did metal gear use the right stick? it uses the analog stick but only one of em.
this same thread was started about a year ago. After searching Google I found it on the second page by searching" Ape Escape? "
"best ps1 dual stick game" In that thread there were some speculation that spyro might have used it.. but the only one really confirmed was Ape Escape.
" Ape Escape immediately comes to mind "i always wanted to play ape escape. my friend said it actually used the right stick in a way that makes sense with the attacks on the stick.
is there any shooters or 3rd person games that have at least somewhat modern controls like left stick for strafe, right stick for aim?
" @CandiBunni said:I don't remember the right stick being used at all in spyro. you used L2 and R2 to turn the camera left and right, i dont think the right stick did anything at all.this same thread was started about a year ago. It's kinda surprising to me that more games didn't have options for dualshock. it would have benefitted a lot in stuff like syphon filter and FPS games. they would still be playable for people without the dualshock but it would convince people to buy one and give the people with dualshocks more justification of buying a new controller.
" Ape Escape immediately comes to mind "This
Smash TV style, but with more Bruce Willis.
good question.
I dont know. cant think of any. Maybe Gran Turismo 2? I know GT games have it so left stick steers and the right stick for analog control of breaking and acceleration but I dont know if that was in GT2.
I remember GTA3 was the first game that got me using the left stick for movement instead of the d-pad but that was a ps2 game.
Hmm...MediEvil comes to mind in regards to using the Dualshock controller well.
"....you sure? i beat that game again just recently, didnt use the right stick at ALL.Crash 3"
" @captain_clayman: My bad, I was thinking MGS2. Ignore that. I do remember MGS was built for the DS1 though. "It was definitely heavily marketed as being best with the DS1. I think it was more for the vibration features than anything, like Psycho Mantis' boss fight.
I only have the original PS1 controllers without the sticks. They're pretty funny to go back to, your fingers try to rest on what isn't there.
The only one I can think of that really warranted the dualshock was Ape Escape. Man that was a great game.
