Sony Unveils First PlayStation Certified Tablet [Updated]
I dont know what to think, i personally think this wont sell well. They want to emulate Apples success with the Ipad, and fair enough, hats of to them, its a lucrative market. but really?
So PSN is shut down and your next announcement is a new tablet that will probably cost more than the PS3 did when it first came out?? WINNING!!!
"whats the major selling point here? that it can play PS1 games? you could do that with an Ipad....with a emulator (maybe not legal but :P)"Perfectly legal. Emulators have been proven in court to be completely legal when built the right way, and there's an DMCA exception for jailbreaking devices like the ipad. Of course that's assuming you own the games.
Best part about doing things that way? You already own the game and have the disk, so all you have to do is rip the iso off the disk to play it. With Sony's tablet, you'll most likely have to pay for it again.
Not that I'm too excited about either method. How those shoulder buttons would be anything other than end up throwing the device across the room aggravating I don't know.
Just realized... how the hell are you supposed to push the shoulder buttons?? They're a thumbs length away. So stupid.
" cuz everyone would love to spend ~$500 on a device just to play ps1 titles ;) "yea since thats all this thing would do
Doesn't anybody who wants a tablet have one by now? I don't think that the ability to play old games on a touch screen is really a selling point, especially when other tablets have lots of games made specifically for them. DO NOT MOTHERFUCKING WANT.
When is Sony going to figure out that they aren't Nintendo and they can't get away with just selling people the same games over and over on different devices?
That said, this looks neat like the Xperia Play looked neat, but we'll see how well it actually does. I love the idea of PS Certified phones, I think Sony is realizing that smartphones are slowly replacing handheld game platforms, but they have to put good content on the things if they want them to sell. PS1 games just aren't going to cut it.
Wow, I didn't really expect that. I like the idea, but seeing those on-screen controls for Crash just reminded me how much I hate playing fake-buttons-on-screen games on my iPad.
" @PatrickKlepek We already know our current PSN PS1 purchases won't transfer to Playstation certified phones. Any news on if these tablets fall into the same bull shit? Am I gonna have to repurchase my games to get them on the tablet? Are the tablet purchases at least transferable to the phones? "I'll ask.
Uuuuuugggh this is such a terrible idea! TOUCH PADS ARE NOT GOOD FOR GAMES NOT DESIGNED FOR TOUCH PADS!
This...wait, why? I don't get it. You can play those on a PSP with real controls, or better on your PS3. What is the benefit here?
I'll go with the consensus here and admit that it does look pretty cool. But I just can't stand the lack of feedback concerning touch screen controls.
I do not want to play games without tactile feedback and with my own hands obscuring the playingfield.
I sometimes buy retro classics like Street Fighter II, Secret of Mana and Phantasy Star II on the iPhone store and every time I get frustrated with the controls almost immediately.
Holy crap! This is new, who would think to have a handheld with 2 screens that folds inward link a clam shell and plays games with a touch screen! Then it has a camera on it to boot! They gain points for originality there, I'll say that much. [/sarcasm]
