A Famitsu Nico Nico stream on the 26th of August will be the place for a "shocking" new Pokemon project announcement. The stream will be here (6 AM PST/ 9 AM EST). Not sure if you need to create an account or whatever since last time I used Nico Nico was for that P5 thing.

So..."shocking" means it's going to be a Pikachu thing right? Almost a year ago, there was talk of a Pikachu detective game.

I don't think I'd be into a Pokemon fighting game. Unless it was unbelievably good of course. The 3DS games seems to be a significant step forward for the franchise, but I wouldn't mind some sort of Wii U Pokemon-ing.

Of course this could all be for a movie or something...

@synaptic: I'm still waiting on my open-world Pokemon Snap where you have to travel around to different regions and climb mountains and shit to get pictures of all the different pokemon in the wild. Sell your photos for cash to upgrade your camera, buy more gear and camping equipment, and generally have to survive in the wilderness photographing superpowered monsters for a living.

Edit: And the Wii U Gamepad would be perfect for a new Snap anyways! Make going into ruins or whatever to get pictures of Ghost pokemon turn into Fatal Frame, scuba dive to get pictures of Tentacruel and Wailord and such. It'd be rad.

I'd love a proper pokemon or pokemon snap on the wii u, but i doubt its anything more than just some new pikachu game. Not getting my hopes up

As for a new Pokemon Snap game, I don't think this is it, but Masuda said in the past he'd love for a new one to be made. So there's a sliver of hope a new one will be made one day.

One thing is for certain, it's not going to be the awesome game everyone knows they should make on a proper console to bring the franchise beyond the rehashing of pokemon red/blue. It's probably going to be some sort of spin off no one will care about. I bet it's going to sell reasonably well though.

This franchise is a metaphor for Nintendo as a company: so much wasted potential and conservatism.

A sequel to Hey You, Pikachu? About time!

Admission time. I want that game SO badly as a kid. Luckily I never got it.

I'm hoping the announcement is either Pokken Fighters or a current gen Pokemon Snap. If announced, a Pokemon MMORPG for the Wii U could have the potential of being awesome, but in all likelihood, that probably won't happen.

Finally, a game that lets you farm Pocket Monsters for meat and their hides.

Why? Pokemon just functions so much better on handhelds. Especially when you take into account that a LOT of kids play Pokemon and want to bring their game with them wherever they go. (School, in the car, friends house etc.) Beyond a potentially bigger world and HD graphics, what would be the big appeal of a "full fledged" console RPG?

Also, Pokemon had two console RPGs in the past... Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness. They might not have followed the traditional Pokemon games but they were still RPGs and Pokemon was the theme.
