Poker Night at the Inventory Review
Poker Night at the Inventory is a computer game brought to you by Tell Tale Games. You will get to play Texas Hold'em against some recognizable icons. Those of course would be Max (Sam & Max), Strong Bad (Homestarrunner), The Heavy (Team Fortress 2), and Tycho (Penny Arcade). You have all been invited to an underground tournament where you will have to pit your skills against one another. Done in the comedic formula that sets Tell Tale Games apart don't be surprised if there are some zingers in there.
Graphically, once you've ramped up the graphics the game looks well done, there are some issues with the shadows on the Heavy on lower settings, but overall every character looks as they should. Tycho done in a more cel-shaded fashion is the only one that really is more open to player interpretations of if you like the art style or not.
the voices in the game are what set this game up to be one hell of an experience. It is very enjoyable to hear the stuff that comes out of the players' mouths, and to take a peek into the random conversations that the characters might have with one another if they were to actually meet for a game of poker.
The controls are about as basic as you can get them, you're going to use the mouse, and that's about it. So be sure that when you want to Fold that the cursor is over Fold and not Raise.
Overall I know that there are those out there that find this game lacking, but for me I'm not that series of a Poker player so I actually enjoy the game, and get into it. I play a couple of hands, and then I move on to something else. There's that burning desire every time I sit down to play a round or two, but I know there are those out there who play round after round, and I can understand that the amount of substance in the game might be a bit lacking. Its fun to hear the funny lines, but in all honesty there's not a whole lot of them. If you play like I do that's probably not going to be a problem, but if you're trying to become the next Poker Star, that's probably going to piss you off. Now as you play the game you're going to be able to unlock different decks, and claim opponents' prize possessions (this happens randomly when they don't have the $10,000 buy in). You'll also notice that as you play your name is going to change depending on the amount of money that you've won or lose.
I'm not saying that this is a must game, but it is definitely a game that makes for a good distraction, or something that you can relatively quickly get through, most times (unless one of the players just can't lose). There's enough of a game here for me, so I have to give this game an 8.5 out of 10.
