The game where you get to play a mean ass god has come to the DS with a range of new modes and features.
In this DS version, the top-screen is the "actual world" while the bottom touch-screen becomes the god's "working canvas" whereby the player performs the landscaping and can clearly see how much energy he has to unleash.
Takahiro Murakami, Lead Producer on Populous DS at EA Japan, has said that he believes the touch control is far improved over the D-Pad control found in the early Famicom versions. And that he hopes fans of the original will be impressed with what the DS game has to offer.
This game will also feature Nintendo themed buildings, this concept derives from the Japanese Super Famicom game which had a "Bit Valley" stage which did the same. The game will also feature a Japanese style "Yamato Stage", as well as a "Space" stage where the air is thin and affects your energy. This will also affects your battle strategy.
There are 4 different modes in the game:
- A "Gods Vs Demons" single-player campaign progressing through various stages.
- A more relaxed "Warrior Hunt" mini-game.
- Freeplay-mode where the player chooses the stage and conditions.
- Multi-player mode with up to 4-players via wireless connection.
