I thought I just got through the gel tutorial when that section of the game ended. I never felt like the gels were their own thing or even an accessory to the portal gun, but simply another obstacle. Going into the game, I thought the gels were going to be utilized in addition to portals for the bulk of the game. What do you guys think? Would you want to see more gel stuff in a Portal 3?
Portal 2
Game » consists of 20 releases. Released Apr 19, 2011
Portal 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed first-person puzzle game, carrying forward its love of mind-bending problems and its reckless disregard for the space-time continuum.
Anyone think the gels didn't get used enough?
yeah, agreed. i didn't get enough of that gel action. however i didn't expect it to be utilized in any way other than how it was.
I am a little disappointed that the gels were introduced so late into the game, but it's not a major complaint. Besides, the modding community recently made those Portal 2 E3 levels which I remember used the gels in some crazy ways.
Its unfortunate they get cut off before they really get going but I feel any more testchambers in that part of the game and I would have been starting to tire. For me the point at which the game goes into overdrive near the end is perfectly hit, I wouldn't want that to be offset at all.
I actually thought they were used for the perfect amount of time. When they were first introduced during the Cave Johnson part of the game, I was excited to solve puzzles with the new gimmick, but I was beginning to get sick of the gel stuff by the end of the game. So in my eyes it seems like they knew exactly when to stop with the gels so that they didn't overstay their welcome.
I agree. The whole game seemed so well tested that everytime I thought it got the tiniest bit repetitive you were on to something else." The upcoming DLC might give you more time with the gel I guess, we'll have to wait and see :)
" @HaltIamReptar said:The function in of itself is wonderful. Its execution was lackluster." The white gel was shit. "You could make portals wherever the white gel went. How is that bad!!!! "
Yes I do, but then the game was quite clearly tuned to be just right in terms of play time and learning curve.
Yes and no. They were very cool but the game was so well paced that I felt like I had just about the right amount of each mechanic.
I think all elements needed at least one more massive-room puzzle where their potential was really played out. Plus more puzzles combining various elements. This was done a lot more in co-op and I really liked it, but in the single player it seems thing just get introduced and used for a few puzzles in kinda cool ways (while they're still novel) and then discarded pretty much. Hopefully the DLC bring some more depth and complexity to things.
