Just as soon as Valve says Portal 2's getting downloadable content, BAM--the company reveals it.

Right now dubbed "Portal 2 DLC #1" (why would they name it #1 if we weren't getting more?), the summer-bound downloadable content will include "new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more." I wonder what "more" could mean?

As mentioned yesterday, the downloadable content released for Portal was simply a collection of more test chambers. In that pack, the story didn't continue, there was no further interaction with GlaDOS. There's a larger cast of characters to play around with in Portal 2, so perhaps "more" ties into them.

I've asked Valve if we can expect any new narrative in the add-on, but have yet to hear back.

Even better, you won't pay a dime for this. The content will be free across every platform Portal 2 is available on--PlayStation 3, PC, Mac and Xbox 360. Valve's desire to distribute free content post-release has been a point of contention with Microsoft in the past (see: the lack of updates for Team Fortress 2 after The Orange Box was released), but that's not standing in the way of more testing. Onward to science.

At first, I read that as "Portal 2's (Free!)". Needless to say, I am now a bit disappointed, even though I know that I could never run the game in the first place.

So glad it's free on 360 ... was my only option for buying it and I was afraid we might get screwed on this kind of stuff. Yes please.

the generosity of PC developers never ceases to amaze.. DLC for a GOTY contender, and it's free.

I probably would've paid for it even if it weren't free.

Valve should be getting great community support by doing this, even if I probably would've bought the DLC if it costed money!

I take it MS doesn't want to be outdone in the DLC department by Sony or else they would have charged for this update.  Regardless, I have the PS3 version and as soon as PSN goes back up I will have the PC version as well.

Might go and buy it on 360 now, I won't have access to a PC for 3 weeks and I don't think I can not play this game any more.

I wish they would update TF2 on the xbox. I was really keen to try it but there didn't seem to be anyone in a game when I turned it on which I guess must be because it doesn't get the updates PC gets. Can't understand why Microsoft would have a problem with this.

Will the new chambers have any story to them at all? Or just "Here you go Chell, here's some non-descript chambers to solve"

Surprised it's free on Xbox, but I'm pretty they'll only get one freebie. Valve updated Left 4 Dead with the Survival Mode for free and then had to charge for everything else.
